We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer who will serve as the technical leader for our Epic integration platform. This role requires deep expertise in fullstack TypeScript development, AWS serverless architecture, and Epic EHR integrations. As a Principal Engineer, you will set technical direction, mentor engineering teams, drive architectural decisions, and ensure our Clinical Decision Support (CDS) systems deliver measurable impact at scale. The ideal candidate combines technical excellence with strategic thinking and will immediately elevate engineering practices while furthering agilon's mission.
Candidates should be located on the US East Coast.
Essential Job Functions: You will be joining a team that innovates in agilon’s clinical programs spanning areas such as risk adjustment, care screening, patient attribution, and quality management. Your team is responsible for building highly engaging workflow tools to support the operationalization of all these clinical programs, as well as
those that provide insights to providers at the point of care. For example, the insights embedded within Epic’s CDS workflows will directly influence the health outcomes for hundreds of thousands of senior patients across the country.
Responsibilities:
• Own technical architecture for Epic-integrated applications, ensuring scalability, security, and maintainability.
• Serve as the organization's subject matter expert for Epic-integrated point-of-care apps.
• Partner with Product to assess feasibility, technical tradeoffs, and value of planned features.
• Design technical solutions and lead delivery of high-impact, user-facing projects.
• Elevate engineering practices through mentorship, code reviews, and technical standards.
• Champion technical excellence with a focus on cost optimization, performance, and operational excellence.
Required Qualifications:
• Proven experience working with Epic Systems Vendor Services and Epic EHR integrations.
• Strong working knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR R4, CDS Hooks, HL7).
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with progressive tech leadership roles.
• Expert level proficiency in TypeScript and modern Node.js. • Expertise in AWS serverless architecture.
• Experience working with SQL across relational databases and cloud data warehouses.
Preferred Qualifications:
• SMART on FHIR app development and Epic FHIR APIs experience preferred.
• Experience working in scrum or agile teams.
• Experience with comprehensive software testing strategies.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code.
• Experience acting or working in a health care integration consultant role, with an ability to translate business and clinical requirements into scalable technical solutions.
Location: Remote - OHPay Range: $153,000.00 - $191,300.00Salary range shown is a guideline. Individual compensation packages can vary based on factors unique to each candidate, such as skill set, experience, and qualifications.
