DIRECTV Data & Analytics team is looking for a curious, talented and highly motivated Platform Engineer to lead the administration, optimization, and security of our enterprise data platforms, including Snowflake, Databricks, Tableau, Power BI, and MicroStrategy.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in managing large-scale data platforms, cloud-native architectures, and performance tuning, with a passion for ensuring platform stability, scalability, and interoperability.

In this role, you will work closely with data engineering, governance, and analytics teams to optimize data platform performance, enhance security, and drive automation. You will have the autonomy to innovate, improve system reliability, and implement best practices across our data ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

1. Multi-Platform Administration (40%)

  • Administer and optimize enterprise data platforms, ensuring high availability and operational efficiency.
  • Manage user access, role-based security, and system configurations across Snowflake, and Databricks.
  • Oversee BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, and MicroStrategy) to support analytics and reporting needs.

2. Performance Monitoring & Optimization (25%)

  • Proactively monitor platform performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimization strategies.
  • Optimize query execution, workload management, and storage efficiency across platforms.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure cost-effective resource utilization.

3. Integration & Interoperability (15%)

  • Enable seamless integration between data platforms and analytics tools, ensuring smooth data pipelines and transformations.
  • Work with data engineering teams to support ETL/ELT workflows and data movement across cloud and on-premise environments.

4. Data Security & Compliance (10%)

  • Implement and enforce data security policies, including RBAC, encryption, and access controls.
  • Ensure compliance with data governance and regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, SOC 2, HIPAA).
  • Collaborate with security teams to assess vulnerabilities and implement remediation measures.

5. Documentation & Knowledge Sharing (10%)

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of platform configurations, best practices, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Conduct knowledge-sharing sessions and provide training to internal teams on platform capabilities and usage.

Required Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in data platform engineering, data operations, or enterprise data management.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience managing and optimizing platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, Tableau, Power BI, and MicroStrategy.
  • 5+ years of experience working with cloud-native architectures in AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • 5+ years of experience optimizing performance for large-scale data platforms, including query tuning, resource scaling, and workload management.
  • 3+ years of experience with integration and automation, including orchestration tools like Apache Airflow, Dagster, dbt, or similar technologies.
  • Strong expertise in SQL and Python for platform administration, performance optimization, and automation.
  • Proven experience in data security, role-based access controls (RBAC), and compliance frameworks (GDPR, SOC 2, HIPAA).

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with orchestration and workflow automation tools like Airflow, Dagster, or dbt.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Terraform, or Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for cloud resource automation.
  • Experience in cost optimization strategies for cloud-based data platforms.

Preferred Certifications

  • Snowflake Advanced Architect
  • Databricks Data Engineer Professional
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or equivalent in Azure/GCP
  • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)

Education

  • Master’s degree in computer science, Data Engineering, or a related field preferred.

This is a remote position that can be located anywhere in the United States, with preference for Los Angeles, Dallas, or Atlanta. #LI-Remote

DIRECTV's compensation structure is designed to be market-competitive and fully supports efforts to attract and retain employees. It is the company's policy to offer pay that is competitive with other employers in the local market. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.

The Base Salary range displayed below reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for each of DIRECTV's 4 (four) US Labor Market Zones. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

DIRECTV WAGE ZONES: $116,375 - $211,255

Low (N1): $116,375 - $174,515

Mid (N2): $122,500 - $183,700

High (N3): $134,750 - $202,070

Top (N4): $140,875 - $211,255
