We are seeking a Principal Product Designer to help reimagine what the future of work looks like for Confluence customers. In this role, you'll drive key design initiatives across Confluence, working at the intersection of Creation, Collaboration, and AI to create seamless, intelligent experiences that empower teams to create and collaborate anywhere, anytime. Your work will define core AI experiences and patterns across the Teamwork Collection and Atlassian.
You'll partner closely with our Teamwork Collection, AI, and Design Language teams to push the boundaries of what's possible-leveraging the latest in generative AI and intelligent agents to deliver breakthrough AI-first workflows and world-class visual design quality.
Your work will help shape how millions of Confluence users create and collaborate with AI, making collaboration smarter, faster, and more delightful. Your charter is to

1. help customers harness the power of AI throughout the entire arc of their workflows,
2. define the next evolution of human-AI collaboration, and
3. uplevel the quality of visual, interaction, and motion design across Confluence.

What you'll do:

• Design core AI experiences and patterns with a focus on visual quality, design language, and brand direction.
• Partner with exec leadership, stakeholders, cross-functional teams to create a unified view of AI capabilities across the Teamwork Collection.
• Lead design projects from creation to execution and be responsible for tying the work back to customer value delivery and outcomes.
• Identify success metrics ensuring design solutions continue to deliver customer value.
• Identify opportunities to enhance our products and accelerate AI and collaboration experiences at Atlassian.
• Collaborate with some of the industry's smartest (and nicest) people. You'll work with Engineers, Product Managers, Content Designers, Researchers, Marketing Experts, and Analysts to advocate for the user experience in our products and ship high-quality work

Your background

• 10+ years of product design experience, with a proven track record of designing high-quality, consumer-grade experiences for complex or enterprise-level software
• High level of craft for visual and motion design-you bring an editorial perspective to everything you deliver. Experience in game design, voice interfaces, 3D or similar areas are a plus.
• Experience building AI products across Chat, Agents, and other AI interfaces.
• Experience working with complex products, shaping conceptual models, and translating complexity into simplicity for users.
• Strong communication skills and ability to directly influence executive stakeholders. Passion for story-telling, bringing design direction to life with strong narrative and compelling visuals.
• Experience in end-to-end UX/product design, balancing customer needs with business goals, market viability, and technical feasibility.
• Facilitation and cross-functional collaboration skills: You can integrate the work of multiple teams, solicit and synthesize feedback, and drive holistic decisions when priorities conflict.
• Experience measuring success with qualitative and quantitative methods.
• Experience coaching senior and lead designers, leveling up the AI and visual design proficiency across the organization.

Compensation
At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs. To support this goal, the baseline of our range is higher than that of the typical market range, but in turn we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience. In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:
Zone A: USD 216900 - USD 283175
Zone B: USD 195300 - USD 254975
Zone C: USD 180900 - USD 236175
This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
