We are seeking a Staff Product Manager, Compute Infrastructure and hardware to lead the strategy and execution of our core compute offerings. You will be responsible for defining the roadmap and driving innovation for our compute platform, ensuring we deliver powerful, reliable, and cost-effective solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers. This role requires a solid understanding of the cloud computing landscape, including processor technologies, virtualization, and infrastructure optimization.

What You’ll Do:
  • Compute Platform Strategy: Develop and champion the long-term vision and strategy for DigitalOcean's compute platform. Define the roadmap for new compute offerings, features, and enhancements, aligning with overall company goals and customer needs.
  • Processor Roadmap Expertise: Stay ahead of the curve on processor technologies from Intel, AMD, ARM, and other vendors. Analyze performance benchmarks, cost-efficiency, and emerging trends to inform compute platform decisions.
  • Fleet Management and Utilization: Drive initiatives to optimize the efficiency and utilization of our compute infrastructure. Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve performance, and maximize resource allocation.
  • Virtualization and Containerization: Deepen our expertise in virtualization and containerization technologies. Explore and evaluate new technologies to enhance our compute offerings and support evolving customer workloads.
  • Performance and Reliability: Champion efforts to ensure the performance, reliability, and scalability of our compute platform. Collaborate with engineering teams to address performance bottlenecks, improve system stability, and enhance the customer experience.
  • Cost Optimization: Identify and implement strategies to optimize the cost-efficiency of our compute infrastructure. Analyze pricing models, negotiate with vendors, and drive initiatives to reduce operational expenses.
  • Competitive Analysis: Continuously monitor the competitive landscape for compute offerings. Analyze competitor strengths and weaknesses to identify opportunities for differentiation and innovation.
  • Customer Collaboration: Engage with customers to understand their compute needs and gather feedback on our offerings. Incorporate customer insights into the product roadmap and prioritize features that deliver maximum value.
  • Cross-functional Leadership: Collaborate effectively with engineering, finance, marketing, and sales teams to ensure alignment on compute platform strategy and execution.
Key Metrics:
  • Compute Platform Growth: Track the growth and adoption of our compute offerings, including virtual machines, bare metal servers, and container services.
  • Infrastructure Efficiency: Monitor key metrics related to infrastructure utilization, cost per unit of compute, and operational efficiency.
What You’ll Add to DigitalOcean:
  • 8+ Years of Product Management Experience: Proven track record in defining and launching successful compute infrastructure products, ideally within a cloud computing environment.
  • Compute Knowledge:
    • Strong understanding of CPU architectures (Intel, AMD, ARM), including microarchitectures, instruction sets, and performance characteristics.
    • Ability to translate the benefits of different CPU architectures to customer use cases and articulate the value proposition of each offering.
  • Datacenter Fundamentals: Familiarity with datacenter design principles, including rack layouts, power distribution, cooling systems, and networking infrastructure.
  • Cost Optimization:
    • Understanding of server component costs, including CPUs, memory, storage, and networking.
    • Ability to analyze and optimize the cost of compute infrastructure at scale.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Ability to analyze data, derive insights, and make informed decisions to drive product strategy and execution.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams.
Compensation Range: 
  • $218,400 - $273,000

*This is a hybrid role

  • We reward our employees. The salary range for this position is based on market data, relevant years of experience, and skills. You may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company and individual performance. We also provide equity compensation to eligible employees, including equity grants upon hire and the option to participate in our Employee Stock Purchase Program.
