The MongoDB Communications team is looking for a strategic and versatile communications professional to serve as our Product Communications Manager. This role is the connective tissue for product storytelling at MongoDB — surfacing the narratives, wins, and momentum happening across the business and turning them into external stories that build credibility with builders, customers, and the media.

Reporting to the Product Communications Lead, you'll work in close partnership with Product Marketing and act as a conduit for cross-functional product storytelling, pulling threads from teams across the business — including Partner Marketing, Customer Marketing, Strategic Events, and Builder Relations — into a cohesive narrative. This is a hands-on role spanning story mining, executive thought leadership, and media relations, with scope across MongoDB's full product portfolio.

This role is based in the U.S., with hybrid or remote options available. Occasional travel will be required.

Position Expectations
  • Own story mining across the business: proactively surface product narratives — customer wins, feature milestones, roadmap moments, and engineering deep-dives — worth pitching to media and other external audiences
  • Build and execute an executive thought leadership program for product leaders, securing bylines, speaking opportunities, and other platforms that position MongoDB's product vision and technical point of view
  • Manage day-to-day media relations for product-related stories: cultivate reporter relationships, lead briefings, respond to inbound press inquiries, and pitch proactively
  • Serve as the connective tissue between Comms and Product Marketing, translating product roadmaps and positioning into external-facing narratives
  • Partner cross-functionally with Partner Marketing, Customer Marketing, Strategic Events, and Builder Relations to identify and integrate storytelling opportunities across the business
  • Rethink the PR playbook for the AI era: know how to win with builder audiences and how to make MongoDB's story discoverable and credible in a world where builders get answers from LLMs and agents, not just search and press
  • Develop and maintain messaging for product communications activities and help train company spokespeople
  • Contribute to and help execute MongoDB's product-related communications strategy, including supporting the broader team's approach to campaigns, launches, and always-on programming
  • Jointly manage the relationship with MongoDB's PR agency alongside the broader Communications team, ensuring high-impact execution against shared goals
  • Monitor industry news, competitive activity, and media/social trends to identify proactive storytelling opportunities and inform strategy
  • Set success metrics for product communications programs, track results, and report on impact to the Product Communications Lead and other stakeholders
We're Looking for Someone With
  • 5+ years of experience working in comms programs for leading technology companies and/or high growth global B2B systems, SaaS, enterprise software, or cloud computing provider
  • Exceptional writing skills, including the ability to translate complex, technical product concepts into meaningful and compelling stories for a range of audiences
  • A proven track record developing and executing multiple communications programs simultaneously, with limited guidance
  • Established media relationships and experience securing coverage with technology, business, and trade press
  • Experience building or supporting executive thought leadership programs (bylines, speaking, external platforms)
  • Confident leadership skills who can collaborate with a diverse set of C-level executives, leaders, and stakeholders
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with experience partnering across marketing functions such as Product Marketing, Customer Marketing, Partner Marketing, etc.
  • A data-informed approach to measuring and reporting on communications impact
  • Comfort operating with a high degree of ambiguity and juggling shifting priorities in a fast-moving environment
  • Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders, including Directors and above

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
