About the role

We're hiring a Lead Product Designer to join the Product & Design team at VitVio on a contract basis. This time around, we're specifically looking for someone who designs with AI at the core of their process, is comfortable using AI tools to speed up discovery and ideation, and proficient in AI-driven design to turn ideas into working, testable interfaces rather than static mockups.

You'll help define how surgical and hospital teams experience our tools: designing intuitive, high-impact interfaces that cut through complex clinical workflows and directly support better patient outcomes.

This is a hands-on role for someone who likes moving fast: exploring problems, building prototypes, testing with real users, and iterating until the details are right. You'll work across the full product lifecycle, from early discovery and research through to high-fidelity design and delivery, using AI tools throughout to move quicker without losing craft.

Day-to-day, you'll work closely with clinicians, engineers, and product stakeholders, balancing strong usability with the technical and clinical realities of the environment. Design is central to how we build at VitVio, and you'll have real influence over the product through your craft.

About you
  • Solid product design fundamentals. You can go from a rough problem to highly polished, production-ready interfaces.

  • Comfort working across the full lifecycle: discovery, research, prototyping, testing, delivery

  • Fluency in AI-native design and rapid AI-assisted prototyping as a default way of working

  • Proficiency in AI tooling. You regularly use tools like Claude, Cursor, v0, Bolt, Replit (or similar) to build functional prototypes, not just static mockups.

  • Experience planning and running user interviews independently, and synthesizing findings into design decisions

  • Working knowledge of front-end implementation principles to streamline engineering handoffs

  • Design for the hard parts of AI UX. Uncertainty, trust, transparency, and error/failure through clear system explainability, confidence indicators, graceful failure, and human oversight in safety-critical situations.

  • Proven ability to map human-AI interaction workflows by seamlessly blending prompting, output review, error correction, and the handoff of control.

  • Ability to work independently in a remote, contractor setup, with clear communication

  • Bonus: experience designing for healthcare, clinical, or other high-complexity operational environments

What we offer
  • Type: Contractor

  • Commitment: Part-time, flexible — with the option to scale up hours. There's a chance the team could expand and this will convert into a full-time role. Occasional trips to partner hospitals are expected, during which hours may increase.

  • Start date: Now

  • Location: We're remote first (European time zones). If you are based in Warsaw, Poland, then we could discuss a hybrid approach.

  • Equipment: A laptop is provided for the duration of the contract

Hiring process
  1. Screening call: 15 minutes, quick mutual fit check

  2. Whiteboard challenge: 90 minutes, you'll work through a design problem and present a solution, showing how you use AI tools to go from concept to a working prototype

  3. Offer

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
