What are we looking for? We’re seeking a Contract Design System Designer to lead the creation of our AI-compatible design system and product blueprint, establishing the foundations for scalable, consistent, and localization-ready design across our digital experiences.
This role is dedicated 100% to building and documenting a unified design language, component library, and product structure that will accelerate delivery, improve collaboration between design and engineering, and prepare our design system for seamless integration with AI-powered design tools like Figma’s Make AI, variables, and tokens.
You’ll be working in a fast-moving environment with many parts of the app not yet fully captured or documented, so you should be comfortable with ambiguity and skilled at creating structure from complexity. This is a hands-on systems-building role, ideal for someone who has successfully built a design system from scratch (0→1) and can bring clarity, cohesion, and scalability to a rapidly evolving product.
What will you do?- Audit existing design assets and component usage to identify gaps and redundancies.
- Build a unified, scalable Figma design system, with tokens, variables, and AI-ready structure for future automation.
- Define foundational elements, typography, color, spacing, iconography, accessibility, with documentation for consistent use.
- Prepare the system for localization and internationalization, ensuring components adapt seamlessly to new markets.
- Introduce processes and frameworks that keep the design system aligned as the product evolves quickly.
- Create and maintain a comprehensive product blueprint capturing key user flows (onboarding, payments, navigation, etc.).
- Bring together fragmented files and flows into a single source of truth, establishing a full picture of the current experience.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to identify missing areas and progressively document them.
- Partner with engineers to ensure system components map cleanly to code (e.g., React libraries or design tokens).
- Work closely with designers to drive adoption and streamline workflows.
- Provide clear documentation, usage guidelines, and best practices to enable system scalability.
- Structure the design system for AI-enhanced workflows (e.g., Figma Make AI, generative component creation, and tokenized design).
- Identify opportunities for automation and AI integration within design ops, documentation, and localization workflows.
- You will NOT worry about "runway", "cash left", or "how much time we have until the next round". We have the startup DNA but we're fully backed and funded, all the way to success.
- You will NOT be confined to your "job". You will get involved in product, marketing, business strategy, and almost everything we do.
- You will NOT be bogged down by office politics, ego, or bad attitude. Only positive, pleasure-to-work-with people are allowed here!
- You will NOT get yourself burned out. We work hard but we believe in maintaining a sustainable work/life balance. Really.
Yes. We operate in Pacific Time and candidates in any time zone are welcome to apply.
Requirements- 3–6 years in Product or UX/UI design, with direct experience building or maintaining a design system from zero (0→1).
- Comfortable navigating fast-moving teams and incomplete product documentation, you bring order and clarity to evolving systems.
- Skilled in componentization, design tokens, auto-layout, and variables within Figma.
- Comfortable partnering with front-end engineers to ensure design–dev alignment.
- Experienced in creating structured documentation and scalable guidelines.
- Curious and proactive about AI integration in design tools and workflows (Figma Make AI, design tokens, automation).
- Familiar with building systems that support multiple languages and regions.
- The chance to build something that changes lives – and that people love
- Free BetterHelp accounts for all team members
- An awesome community of co-workers
The is a remote contract position with an hourly range of $95 - $105/hr.
