We’re looking for a hybrid product designer and front-end developer to join the design team at Knapsack. You’ll help build the future of design systems, intelligent tooling, and structured product interfaces.
This is a hands-on role working in both Figma and the codebase—designing product flows, components, and tools that bring design, code, and content into a shared system. If you’ve ever said, “I design in the codebase,” you’ll feel at home here.
- Design and build product UI—from concept to implementation
- Work fluidly between Figma and a modern codebase (React, TypeScript, HTML/CSS)
- Translate your designs into responsive, accessible components
- Collaborate with engineers on implementation, architecture, and UI systems
- Identify UX gaps and design inconsistencies—and improve them
- Lead UX work on config tools, workflows, and system-driven interfaces
- Prototype in code when it’s the clearest way to show intent
- Contribute to and evolve our internal design system
- 3+ years of experience designing and building real product interfaces
- Solid front-end skills: React, TypeScript, semantic HTML, modern CSS
- A structured, system-aware design mindset
- Comfort working without pixel-perfect specs—you know how to explore, shape, and ship
- A portfolio (required) that shows your UX thinking, visual craft, and implementation in code
- Bonus if you include code samples or GitHub links that reflect your front-end contributions
- Experience contributing to a design system (tokens, docs, components)
- Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG, ARIA)
- Background in developer tools, creative coding, or motion design
- Interest in AI-assisted tooling or structured product systems
Knapsack is building the Intelligent Product Engine—a platform that helps product teams orchestrate design, code, and content into structured digital interfaces. We work with some of the most forward-thinking design systems and platform teams out there.
We’re a fully remote company (US only), headquartered in Portland, OR. The team is small, experienced, and collaborative. We care about clarity, quality, and solving the right problems.
Knapsack helps teams build interfaces in structured, scalable ways. That means the people shaping our product need to think in both design logic and front-end architecture.
As part of the design team, you’ll help define what we build—and then help build it. You’ll wireframe a new flow one day, debug layout the next, and ship a product improvement the day after that.
LocationRemote-friendly (US-based). Knapsack is a fully remote company headquartered in Portland, OR.
Compensation & Benefits- Salary range from $110,000 - $140,000 based on experience
- Flexible, remote-first work culture
- Unlimited PTO
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- A thoughtful, ambitious team building something truly original
