A Day in the Life

Your day begins with responding to a few emails and catching up on the latest cybersecurity news. You see an email from a Field Marketing Manager in Europe requesting content support for a local marketing event. You review the request, create the piece they need and send it off for translation. Now, it is time to jump into some meetings.

You open Microsoft Teams for your regular weekly check-in with the Product Manager for your product line. Together, you review the status of the upcoming release, the key capabilities, and the timing. After the call, you update your product launch plan, modify the messaging and use case coverage and start building out the launch deliverables, request resources and enter deadlines.

Then, you transition to a meeting with the Creative and Web teams to review a revamped webpage designed to reinforce the competitive differentiators for your product. You drafted the copy already and will now collaborate on the graphics and consider the webpage template options together.

It’s time for lunch and a workout before the second half of your day begins. After lunch, you blocked out writing time, and today, you are working on training content for the field team and partners. Your focus is positioning the upcoming release, what use cases the new features cover, and how the features differentiate the product from the competition. You’re careful to create content that is straightforward and powerful.

When you reach a good stopping point, you take a moment to check in with the Sales Engineering Lead on your product to get feedback on the challenges the team is experiencing with positioning the product and demonstrating value. You work with the sales engineer to update some materials and note changes to the demo story you will share with your product manager.

You finish your day preparing a few slides to present key status updates and action items for an upcoming release to share with the team in the weekly product launch meeting.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
