Product Marketing Manager at Restate

Restate (restate.dev) is a lightweight runtime that turns AI agents, workflows, and backend services into durable processes - so teams can focus on their logic, not failure mechanics.

The role: Durable execution is becoming a foundational piece of the AI infrastructure stack, but most developers haven’t connected the dots yet. There’s a real gap between what Restate can do and what the wider community thinks durable execution is for. This role exists to close it.

As our first product marketing hire, you’ll own positioning, messaging, launches, packaging, and customer stories end-to-end. You’ll focus on AI-native companies and AI use cases. You’ll work directly with the founders, engineers, and the early team to define how Restate is perceived by the market. You bring the narrative, the market instinct, and the craft to make complex infrastructure land.

The opportunity

Own the narrative for an emerging category

Durable execution is moving from a niche pattern to default AI infrastructure, and the category language is still being written. You’ll decide how Restate is positioned for AI-native teams including how we talk about agents, orchestration, and long-running AI processes.

Front-row seat to the biggest infra shift in decades

As systems become more agentic, long-running, integration-heavy, and failure-prone, durable execution turns reliability from a bespoke engineering tax into a default property. You’re not marketing a feature, you’re shaping how a foundational layer of the AI stack gets understood and adopted.

State-of-the-art tech, built from first principles

Restate re-imagines durable execution as a lightweight self-contained stack - no database required - and ships as a single Rust binary with an optimized custom storage layer, low latency orchestration, and an analytics engine for observability.

Enterprise traction and AI-native momentum

Restate is already used by Fortune 500 companies, including Tier 1 banks running critical financial workflows, and also by cutting-edge AI and infra startups pushing the boundary of what “production-grade agents” mean. You’ll work on problems where reliability, correctness, and operational simplicity are existential.

What you’ll do

You’ll own product marketing end-to-end, with a center of gravity on AI-native companies and AI use cases. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Positioning & messaging. Define and own how Restate is positioned for AI use cases: agents, LLM orchestration, human-in-the-loop, and long-running AI processes across AI-native startups and enterprises adopting AI.

  • Competitive positioning. Stay close to the durable-execution and agent-infrastructure landscape and define differentiation that holds up in technical evaluations and procurement.

  • Product launches. Run launches and public moments end-to-end so Restate stays highly relevant in the right conversations.

  • Case studies & customer stories. Showcase proof: case studies, customer narratives, and use-case briefs that translate Restate’s capabilities into outcomes the right buyers believe.

  • Packaging & pricing. Partner with product and the founders on how Restate Cloud, self-hosted, and BYOC offerings are packaged and priced, bringing market and customer insight into the decisions.

  • Sales & community enablement. Create content that helps Restate get chosen across web pages, briefs, decks, talks, battlecards, and objection handling for technical and business audiences.

  • Bring Restate to the right audiences. Work with engineers and the founders to keep positioning consistent across channels and get Restate in front of the AI-native teams who need it.

  • Be the voice of the market. Synthesize customer conversations, win/loss, and competitive signals into clear input to the product roadmap.

What we’re looking for
  • A strong product marketer. You’ve owned positioning and messaging for a technical product end-to-end and can showcase your results.

  • Proficient in AI infrastructure. You can talk about agents, orchestration, and infra AI in a way that resonates with engineers building systems at scale.

  • A great writer. Your messaging, briefs, and narratives are sharp, written for the customer, and built to land.

  • Marketing instinct. You have successfully launched products before and can own a launch end-to-end.

  • AI fluency. You naturally leverage AI to amplify your own work, and you understand how AI is reshaping search and discovery so Restate stays top of mind for humans and agents.

We’re open on background. Strong candidates might have done this work at a developer-led or infrastructure company before, but we’re equally interested in people with other backgrounds.

Location and travel
  • US-based, fully remote, but SF Bay Area strongly preferred.

  • Expect 15 - 25% travel for conferences, meetups, and offsites.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
