Our Ocean Marine Division is looking for a Production Underwriter Trainee or Production Underwriter to join their team. This individual will focus on underwriting Hull and Marine Liabilities. This position will be based in our Seattle, WA office. Great American’s culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on-site four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely. Core in‑office days are Tuesday–Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Learns to evaluate and underwrite new and renewal business in accordance with Company underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.

  • Learns to analyze risk information to make informed decisions on coverage, pricing, and terms.

  • Participates in collaborating with actuaries, agents, brokers, and clients to obtain necessary information and clarify details.

  • Assists with ordering additional reports and screens, such as motor vehicle reports, loss history reports, outside inspections, etc., to inform decisions.

  • Learns how to document underwriting decisions in compliance with state and federal insurance regulations.

  • Assists with evaluating existing policies for potential renewal or modification.

  • Participates in communicating underwriting decisions clearly and effectively to internal teams, agents, and brokers.

  • Develops knowledge of industry trends, regulatory changes, and market conditions.

  • Develops effective business relationships with internal and external customers/coworkers in order to attract and retain profitable business.

  • Learns to interpret, explain, and market products and services.

  • Learns to develop marketing strategies to promote the Company’s products to brokers and agents.

  • Develops knowledge of market trends and competition to assist with identifying opportunities for product enhancements and marketing strategies.

  • Organizes and participates in marketing initiatives, including presentations, industry events, and broker/agent meetings to showcase products and services.

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Job Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Economics, Risk Management and Insurance, or a related field or equivalent experience.

  • Experience: Generally, 0-5 years of related insurance experience. Maritime experience is a plus.

Salary Range:

$65,000.00 -$85,000.00
