 This role can be in-office, hybrid or remote. We have offices in Atlanta GA, Charlotte NC, Columbus OH, Jackson MI, or Orlando FL


The Project Engineer will in two capacities; externally as Owners Engineer overseeing large EPC projects for customers, or internally overseeing a team executing EPC projects. They will be responsible for overall coordination between internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.


Responsibilities:

Project Leadership: Lead and manage large EPC projects from inception to completion, ensuring all project goals are achieved.

Owner’s Engineer Role: Represent the client’s interests, ensuring compliance with all project specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements.

Team Oversight: Supervise and coordinate internal project teams, ensuring effective collaboration and communication.

Design and Construction Management: Oversee the design, construction, and commissioning of power delivery infrastructure.

Stakeholder Coordination: Act as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies, facilitating clear and effective communication.

Site Visits: Conduct site visits as needed to monitor project progress, address issues, and ensure adherence to timelines and budgets.

Budget and Schedule Management: Work closely with a Project Manager to develop and manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.

Interdepartmental Coordination: Coordinate design and engineering activities across various departments (e.g., Civil/Structural, Physical/Electrical, Systems Studies, Power Generation, P&C, etc.).

Quality Assurance: Implement quality control measures to ensure all project deliverables meet the required standards and specifications.

Risk Management: Identify and mitigate project risks to ensure smooth project execution.

Mentorship and Supervision

  • Work independently and provide direction to less-experienced Engineers-in-Training (EITs) and Designers
  • Mentor, train, and supervise junior team members

 

Qualifications: 

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program. 

Professional Credentials: 

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, Preferred

Experience: 

  • 6+ years of multi-disciplinary design experience in substations. 

Technical Skills: 

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar design software.
  • Familiarity with power system analysis tools such as ETAP, SKM, or similar - Preferred
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems and their integration with substation equipment – Preferred
  • Familiarity with protective relay coordination and settings - Preferred
  • Understanding of grounding and lightning protection systems.
  • Experience with high voltage (HV) and extra-high voltage (EHV) substation design.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy integration and grid interconnection standards.
  • Proficiency in using project management software such as MS Project or Primavera.
