Prototype Technician

As a Prototype Technician at Carbon Robotics, you will support the Rapid Prototyping team by assembling and installing parts/systems, building wire harnesses, setting up and running test benches, organizing shop tools, shipping/receiving prototype parts and much more. You’ll work hand in hand with design engineers during prototype builds as well as support engineering failure investigations, and in-house repairs. Your attention to detail, organization skills, and work ethic will ensure that Carbon Robotics’s Prototyping Team delivers world class Zero to One development speeds. 

What you'll do:
  • In coordination with engineers you will lead portions of the mechanical and electrical prototype assembly. This includes: 
    • Building kits, staging, storing, and moving materials in preparation for the build.
    • Cutting, drilling, bolting/riveting, gluing, and assembling mechanical structures. 
    • Installing electrical and mechanical components on structures. 
    • Building wire harnesses ensuring correct pinout, routing, labeling, and assembly. Testing harness for continuity and installing. 
    • Follow build instructions, drawings, and safety processes closely and provide feedback where improvements can be made.
  • Support new failure investigations, diagnosis of standard failures, and repair damaged components. 
  • Bring new manufacturing and test equipment online and maintain existing equipment.
  • Set up and run test benches in coordination with test engineers.
  • Help ensure safety and efficiency by organizing and maintaining tools, workstations, and shared shop spaces.
  • Assist with loading/unloading trucks and doing receiving inspections on incoming materials.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for Success:
  • 2–5 years hands-on experience building and fixing hardware in an auto shop, fabrication shop, agricultural, aerospace or maritime environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and eagerness to learn new tools and prototyping techniques.
  • Exhibits attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions, willingness to ask questions when expectations are unclear or problems arise.
  • Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and basic electrical tools.
  • Ability to read or learn to read basic wiring diagrams and assembly instructions.
  • Strong organizational habits and respect for safety, tool care, and workspace cleanliness.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and safely perform hands-on physical tasks.
  • Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with engineers and technicians.

Flexibility in our hiring process allows hiring of talent at levels different from what are posted.  The compensation range outlined is based on a target budgeted base salary. Individual base pay depends on various factors such as relevant experience and skill, Interview assessments and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements. Offers are determined using our equitable hiring practices. Carbon Robotics offers additional compensation in the form of benefits premiums, pre-IPO stock options and On Target Earning commissions for appropriate positions. Base pay ranges are reviewed each year. We are committed to the principle of pay equity – paying employees equitably for similar work.
