Own the architecture, development, reliability, and operations of fiat and cryptocurrency on- and off-ramp infrastructure. Lead a small engineering team, build Node.js and TypeScript payment services, integrate banks, partners, and EVM smart contracts, and ensure resilient settlement, reconciliation, observability, security, and incident response. Partner with Product, Compliance, and Finance to deliver the ramps roadmap while mentoring engineers and maintaining production systems.

About Rise

Rise is a global payments and payroll platform built for the way modern teams actually work - across borders, currencies, and rails. We make it possible for companies to pay full-time employees, contractors, and freelancers anywhere in the world, in either fiat or digital assets, with the compliance, tax, and identity infrastructure handled underneath.

Ramps are how money enters and leaves Rise: fiat to stablecoin on-ramps, stablecoin to fiat off-ramps, bank rails and the partner integrations that connect them. Rise runs ramps in production today, and every payment on the platform crosses one. This role owns them.

Our stack runs on Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Run, BigQuery), with MySQL, a Node.js / TypeScript application layer, and Cloudflare (including Cloudflare Pages) at the edge. Our settlement contracts run on EVM chains (Arbitrum, Base, Polygon, Optimism, Ethereum). Because we move money for real people, security and correctness are first-order concerns in everything we ship.

About the Role

As Ramps Lead you own Rise's ramp infrastructure end to end: the services that move funds between traditional finance and on-chain, the bank and partner integrations behind them, and the small team of engineers building them with you. Rise already runs ramps in production. You will make them more resilient, scale them with our volume, and extend them with new rails and partners.

You report to the Director of Product, who owns the ramps roadmap and customer outcomes. They set the direction for how money should move in and out of Rise and bring the market, customer and partner priorities. You are the engineering owner of that roadmap: you bring the technical strategy, the build plan and the delivery, and you are accountable for turning their priorities into shipped, reliable systems.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will write production code most days, set the technical direction for ramps, and be accountable for the resilience, observability, cost and speed of every dollar that crosses the boundary. Ramps fail in messy ways: partner outages, stuck transactions, chain reorgs, partial settlements. Your job is to build systems that expect those failures, detect them fast and recover without losing or duplicating funds.

What You Will Do
  • Work with the Director of Product to shape the ramps roadmap, and translate it into a sequenced technical plan with clear milestones that you own

  • Own the architecture and delivery of Rise's on-ramp and off-ramp infrastructure, and be accountable for executing the roadmap

  • Bring engineering reality into product decisions: surface tradeoffs, partner constraints and risk early so the vision stays ambitious and achievable

  • Build and maintain the Node.js and TypeScript services that orchestrate fiat and crypto settlement, partner APIs, reconciliation and ledgering

  • Integrate ramp services with Rise's existing smart contracts on EVM chains, and work with the smart contract team when a ramp flow needs an on-chain change

  • Evaluate, integrate and manage banking, liquidity and ramp partners (banks, banking-as-a-service providers, stablecoin issuers, payment processors)

  • Build resilient payment processing: idempotent and retry-safe flows, reconciliation against partner and on-chain records, circuit breakers and failover across providers, and clear recovery paths for stuck or failed transactions

  • Own monitoring and observability for ramp flows end to end: metrics, tracing, alerting and dashboards that catch stalled transactions, partner degradation and balance drift before customers do

  • Own on-call for ramps. You carry the pager for the systems you build, run incident response, lead root cause analysis and drive the fixes that keep the same failure from happening twice. On a small team there is no separate operations group: if money is stuck, it is yours until it moves

  • Partner with Compliance and Finance to meet regulatory, treasury and reconciliation requirements

  • Lead and mentor engineers, review code and raise the bar for quality and security across the team

  • Use AI tools daily to accelerate design, coding, testing, code review, documentation and operational work, and help the team do the same

What We're Looking For

Required

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 2 years leading engineers or owning a technical domain

  • Deep banking integration experience: direct work with bank partners, banking-as-a-service providers or regulated money transmitters on account structures, settlement, ACH, wires, SEPA and compliance

  • Strong grasp of banking concepts: ledgering, settlement windows, returns and reversals, KYC and KYB, money transmission rules and how funds actually move between institutions

  • Strong production experience with Node.js and TypeScript, including API design, background workers and event-driven systems

  • Proven experience building and operating payment systems that handle real money, with a security-first mindset and hands-on ownership of reconciliation and failure recovery

  • Strong track record in monitoring, observability and on-call for production payment systems: you have designed the alerts, carried the pager and caught the problems before they became incidents

  • Demonstrated daily use of AI tools (Claude, Copilot, Cursor or similar) in your engineering workflow, and a point of view on how to use them well and safely

  • Comfortable with SQL (MySQL or similar) and cloud infrastructure

  • Experience reporting to or working closely with a product leader: shaping the roadmap with them, aligning on priorities, and delivering against it rather than waiting for a spec

  • Excellent written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical partners

  • Authorized to work in the United States, and able to pass background and credit checks

Nice to have

  • Solidity and EVM experience: reading, testing and integrating with smart contracts, plus working knowledge of wallets, transaction signing, gas management and RPC providers. Rise settles in both fiat and stablecoins, and we will teach the on-chain side to a strong banking engineer

  • Experience with Foundry or Hardhat, OpenZeppelin or account abstraction

  • Experience with on-chain monitoring and stablecoin settlement

  • Background in treasury, liquidity management or FX

  • Prior work at a payments, payroll or crypto company

How We Work
  • Fully remote team. Everyone at Rise works remotely, with a bias toward written communication and asynchronous work

  • AI is part of how we build. Every engineer is expected to use AI tools in their daily work and to keep improving how we use them

  • Small teams with high ownership, direct access to leadership and short feedback loops

Compensation and Benefits
  • Base salary: $170,000 - $210,000, commensurate with experience

  • Meaningful equity in a growing company

  • Health, dental and vision coverage

  • 401(k) with a 3% company contribution

  • Unlimited PTO and a flexible work schedule - we care about outcomes, not hours

  • Fully remote within the United States

  • Home office and learning stipend

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
