Purpose of the Role:

Supports the organization in terms of effective environmental, health and safety, workers’ compensation management, and loss prevention oversight and guidance. Instills discipline, accountability, and best practices in pursuit of improved safety, cost performance, compliance and employee relations. Leads and reinforces the “Path to Zero” proactive safety culture at SavATree across all service lines and departments.  This role requires an outstanding ability to communicate and maintain rapport with the field teams.  

Essential Functions of the Role (in partnership with regional management):

Safety

  • Plan, organize and manage the safety and health process; ensure it is aligned with strategic objectives
  • Chair Company Safety Calls
  • Chair Corporate Safety & Regulatory Steering Committee Meeting
  • Review, update, implement, and enforce company-wide safety programs
  • Visit branchs office to review and audit safety programs
  • Develop and implement safety awareness programs companywide
  • Accident/incident review to identify root cause, trends, and determine appropriate counter measures

Training

  • Ensure company standards for safety, equipment AND vehicle care are being maintained at branch offices
  • Research time/energy saving devices/techniques as it relates to safety in the workplace
  • Provide technical support for Arborists and Branch Management as it relates to safety in the workplace
  • Participate in all SavATree conferences as it relates to safety training in the workplace

Compliance

  • Work with Branch Offices to ensure compliance with all DOT regulations
  • Work with Branch Offices to ensure compliance with all Federal & State licensing issues
  • Work with Branch Offices to ensure annual OSHA inspections are completed and within OSHA standards
  • Maintain positive relationships with local and regional safety officials and other members of the safety and regulatory communities, including OSHA
  • Ensure that safety related paperwork is completed accurately and on a timely basis, disseminated as required, and maintained in secure and easily accessible format for future reference
  • Conduct thorough investigations of project site accidents or incidents.  Document investigations as required and ensure that responsive / corrective measures are implemented.  Provide appropriate follow-up.
  • Direct SAT portion of due diligence for acquisitions and assist with M&A analysis when needed

Operations

  • Train new Operations Managers and Branch Managers on safety standards and systems
  • Set up and integrate all operational systems (acquisitions, new offices) as it relates to safety in the workplace
  • Responsible for allocation of risk control funds
  • Strong skillset with MS Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to collect data, aggregate it, put it into a meaningful format and then productively disseminate it

Industry

  • Participate in Greens Industry Programs (trade shows, seminars)
  • Liaison with Quality Risk Solutions and Captive Insurance as it relates to safety in the workplace

Physical Environment:

  • Traditional office environment and ability to work in the field in all weather conditions

Physical Demands:

  • Lift up to 50 lbs periodically as needed
  • Ability to travel extensively between locations (up to 40%)

Qualifications for this Role:

  • Experience in the tree care industry (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years of safety management experience at the manager level or above with multi-location and multi-state experience required
  • Proven ability to manage data and analytics, translate into business objectives, monitor and provide updates and report on outcomes
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Proven ability to create and deliver presentations, in person or via webinars
  • Excellent platform skills
  • Proven ability to relate with, establish credibility and influence employees at all levels and full spectrum of safety sensitive positions
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable safety and health standards /laws
  • Knowledge of state Workers’ Compensation laws\Knowledge of disability management techniques
  • Working knowledge of occupational medicine issues
