At Relativity Space, we’re building rockets to serve today’s needs and tomorrow’s breakthroughs. Our Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting the growing demand for launch capacity. But that’s just the start. Achieving commercial success with Terran R will unlock new opportunities to advance science, exploration, and innovation, pioneering progress that reaches beyond the known.

Joining Relativity means becoming part of something where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level. Here, you're not just executing tasks; you're solving problems that haven’t been solved before, helping develop a rocket, a factory, and a business from the ground up. Whether you’re in propulsion, manufacturing, software, avionics, or a corporate function, you’ll collaborate across teams, shape decisions, and see your work come to life in record time. Relativity is a place where creativity and technical rigor go hand in hand, and your voice will help define the stories we’re writing together. Now is a unique moment in time where it’s early enough to leave your mark on the product, the process, and the culture, but far enough along that Terran R is tangible and picking up momentum. The most meaningful work of your career is waiting. Join us.

About the Team:

The additive technology team leads research and development of Relativity’s Stargate 3D-printing platform and factory operating system to produce large-scale metal structures for the industrial base. The team works with robotics engineers, data scientists, systems engineers, and welders to advance Relativity’s innovative tech stack, which leverages autonomy, advanced simulation, machine learning, and robotics. Working at the intersection of hardware and software, the team is creating a unified platform that can perform additive manufacturing, in-situ monitoring, NDE, and subtraction capabilities in a single print cell. Progressing in parallel to Terran R development, Relativity’s breakthroughs in large-scale additive manufacturing have the potential to revolutionize the defense industrial base.

About the Role:

The Robotics Team at Relativity Space is responsible for building and refining the hardware that powers our autonomous systems. From advanced robotics for manufacturing and additive processes to specialized robots that support development and deployment, our R&D hardware engineers work in close collaboration with software, automation to develop cutting-edge technologies that push the boundaries of space exploration and industrial manufacturing. As a key member of the team, you’ll bring your hardware expertise to revolutionize the way robotics cooperate and additively manufacture here on earth and off planet.

About You:

You are a highly motivated, hands-on technician. You are a self-starter, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision, and you have a strong commitment to safety and quality. You’re the kind of person who thrives when working on physical systems and enjoys solving complex, hands-on challenges. You bring a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn new techniques and processes. You can quickly adapt to changing priorities and will play a crucial role in helping the program succeed in building and testing advanced technologies.

  • Experience with 3D Printing: Familiarity with 3D printers and rapid prototyping processes, including material selection and post-processing.
  • Proficient in Mechanical Assembly: Ability to assemble complex parts and systems, with experience in metalworking (cutting, grinding, tapping, and welding).
  • Hands-on System Building: Competence in building systems with 80/20 extrusions or similar modular components.
  • Technical Skills in Assembly and Troubleshooting: Ability to assemble mechanical and electrical components and troubleshoot problems in prototype systems or test equipment.
  • Networking and Cable Management: Experience in running Ethernet cables and assisting with electrical integration of robotic and automated systems.
  • Safety Mindset: Strong understanding of safety standards in an industrial environment, including lockout/tagout, PPE usage, and equipment operation protocols.
  • Team Collaboration: Strong communication and collaboration skills, able to work effectively with other technicians, engineers, and project teams.

Nice to haves but not required:

  • Experience with Robotics: Hands-on experience in building or maintaining robotic systems, especially related to automation or manufacturing.
  • Welding Skills: Experience with advanced welding techniques, particularly for aerospace or heavy-duty manufacturing applications.
  • Knowledge of Control Systems: Familiarity with robotic control systems and electrical integration, including PLCs or other controllers.
  • Automated Systems Experience: Familiarity with automated manufacturing systems and their maintenance.
  • Experience in Aerospace or Additive Manufacturing: Previous experience working in an aerospace environment or with advanced additive manufacturing techniques.
  • No previous aerospace experience is required for this position

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
