This role will report to Senior Manager of Automation Engineering and is part of the Data & Analytical organization within Business Technology (BT). BT powers Workiva’s growth, enhances the employee experience, and boosts organizational productivity with tech-driven transformation and innovative solutions. The Data & Analytics team drives data-driven decisions and innovations across Workiva.

The Automation Engineering team specializes in designing, building, and managing solutions that connect diverse software systems, automate routine tasks, and enable real-time data exchange.  Reducing manual intervention, ensuring smooth interoperability between systems, and enabling scale solutions allows the enterprise to focus on strategic work and innovation. 

The Senior Automation Engineer plays a critical role in modernizing and transforming Workiva systems and applications to unleash productivity and drive efficiencies across the organization. You will partner with cross-functional teams to identify the biggest AI, automation and integration opportunities, deeply understand business requirements, translate them into efficient and scalable technical designs, develop and implement solutions that delight users, and drive continuous improvement and innovation. 

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and technical teams to gather automation & integration requirements and translate them into technical specifications

  • Develop, design, and implement common architecture patterns, including microservices, event-driven architecture, and service-oriented architecture 

  • Design, develop, and implement integrations and automations per technical specifications 

  • Perform testing and debugging of integrations and automations to ensure accuracy, reliability, and performance

  • Build and maintain integration workflows, recipes, and connectors within the Workato platform

  • Own the ongoing quality of integration and automation solutions, actively monitor and troubleshoot integration issues, providing timely resolution and user support

  • Document and develop the paved paths and playbooks for the Engineering community within Workiva, help to set integration/automation best practices

  • Be the subject matter expert for AI, integration and automation technologies and implementations, offer guidance to the engineering community, team members as well as educating end users 

What You’ll Need: 

Minimum qualifications

  • 4+ years of proven experience as a Workato Engineer or similar type of automation role  

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred qualifications 

  • Strong knowledge of integration concepts, methodologies, and best practices

  • Strong understanding of enterprise systems, APIs, cloud-based technologies, and integration architecture.  

  • Proficiency in Workato platform and its features, including connectors, recipes, and workflows

  • Strong proficiency in RESTful APIs and web services, with a deep understanding of API design principles and best practices

  • Knowledge of integration and automation patterns, data transformation, and ETL processes

  • Experience in implementing integration projects, including complex enterprise systems and cloud business apps

  • Familiarity with cloud-based systems and applications, such as Workiva, Salesforce, Marketo, Anaplan/Adaptive, NetSuite/SAP/Oracle, FinancialForce/Open Air, Gainsight, Xactly, etc

  • Proactive in problem-solving, ready to take on additional initiatives and responsibilities as they arise

  • Demonstrated success on high performing automation engineering teams

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, conveying complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Knowledge of other automation platforms, such as MuleSoft or Dell Boomi, is a plus

Travel Requirements & Working Conditions

  • This is a remote-friendly position with reliable internet access

  • Up to 10% travel may be required for in-person team jams, planning sessions, or internal developer conferences 

How You’ll Be Rewarded

✅ Salary range in the US: $128,000.00 - $205,000.00

✅ A discretionary bonus typically paid annually

✅ Restricted Stock Units granted at time of hire

✅ 401(k) match and comprehensive employee benefits package

The salary range represents the low and high end of the salary range for this job in the US. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience and other relevant factors.
