What you'll do

We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to lead backend development initiatives within the Transactions & Insights team. At Clara, you will go beyond coding; you’ll help shape technical direction and systems design while fostering engineering best practices that ensure the performance and scalability of backend systems supporting our core transaction processes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading backend design and implementation for high-impact internal systems and services.

  • Collaborating across the full product lifecycle—from ideation to deployment—using Github and modern CI/CD workflows.

  • Mentoring junior developers and upholding high engineering standards through rigorous code reviews and technical documentation.

  • Writing scalable, testable code in Java with unit and integration testing built-in.

  • Maintaining and evolving microservices within a modern architecture, ensuring seamless integration with internal and external systems via REST, GraphQL, and SOAP APIs.

  • Participating in cross-team architectural discussions and problem-solving to tackle Clara’s most impactful challenges.

Who you are

“We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.”

Must haves

  • Working proficiency in English and Spanish or Portuguese.

  • 5+ years of backend development experience with deep knowledge of software design principles.

  • Proficiency in Java (minimum version 10; ideally version 17) and Spring Boot 3.

  • Experience with Hibernate/JPA, and relational/NoSQL databases.

  • Strong understanding of microservices architecture and event-driven systems using Kafka.

  • Experience integrating with third-party providers via REST, GraphQL, and SOAP APIs.

  • Proficiency in Docker, Git, Github, and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.

  • Experience or interest in AI tools to automate workflows, such as N8N, ChatGPT, or Gemini.

  • Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum, Kanban).

Nice to haves

  • Experience working with multi-country stakeholders and remote teams.

  • Exposure to infrastructure and monitoring tooling within cloud-native environments.

  • Experience creating systems with a high volume of transactions (requests/responses).

  • Independent analytical skills using spreadsheets or SQL.

  • A good sense of humor.

Claridians in a hybrid mode split their time between working from the office, talking to or visiting customers, or working from home. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for each individual and team.

We don't enforce a minimum number of days for most roles, but you're expected to spend time at the office organically, and be at the office most days during your ramp-up or when required by your leader.
