Role Summary

At thatgamecompany, we believe in creating experiences that bring people together — inspiring empathy, kindness, and a sense of wonder. We’re looking for an experienced Senior Community Manager who shares that vision and can help us nurture the vibrant and growing community of Sky: Children of the Light.

In this role, you will serve as a bridge between our players and our development team, helping ensure the heart of our community is heard and reflected in every decision we make. You will lead live operations community efforts, develop meaningful engagement programs across Discord and Steam, and transform player sentiment into insights that guide the ongoing journey of Sky.

You will also actively participate in beta cycles throughout development, playing and evaluating in-progress builds to provide thoughtful, player-focused feedback. Your insights will help shape a more polished, emotionally resonant experience by identifying areas that may affect player joy, connection, or sense of discovery.

A deep appreciation for Sky: Children of the Light and an understanding of thatgamecompany’s mission to inspire human connection and empathy through play will help you thrive in this role.

Responsibilities:

Live Ops & Player Advocacy

  • Serve as the voice of the Sky community within live operations, delivering timely, actionable insights on sentiment, key issues, and emerging trends to guide development decisions.

  • Partner closely with development and production teams to surface critical feedback, track live player issues, and ensure community perspectives are represented in planning and updates.

  • Identify and communicate potential areas that may affect player satisfaction or harmony within the game, helping shape solutions that stay true to Sky’s spirit of connection.

Community Strategy & Engagement

  • Develop and execute community engagement programs across Discord, Steam, and other platforms to strengthen player loyalty, foster meaningful connections, and drive long-term engagement.

  • Create initiatives that celebrate player stories, creativity, and shared experiences within the world of Sky, and promote a welcoming, inclusive community culture.

  • Support moderation and community health strategies that ensure all players feel safe, seen, and welcome.

Feedback & Insights

  • Design and manage structured beta feedback programs, gathering both qualitative and quantitative data to inform development decisions.

  • Translate community feedback into clear, actionable insights for the development team, helping align design intent with player experience.

  • Build regular reporting (daily, weekly, and monthly) to share trends in community sentiment, engagement, and overall community well-being.

  • Identify emerging themes, risks, or opportunities in community discussions and proactively surface them to the team.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate across production, development, and other marketing groups to ensure community perspectives and updates are shared transparently and meaningfully.

  • Support patch notes, live events, and community announcements with messaging that reflects Sky’s warmth, optimism, and authenticity.

  • Help foster a culture of empathy and openness between the development team and our global community.

Must - Haves:

  • 5+ years of community management experience within the video game industry, ideally on live-service or multiplayer titles.

  • Proven experience working closely with development teams to advocate for player experience and shape design outcomes.

  • Skilled in managing beta or playtest programs and synthesizing both qualitative and quantitative player feedback.

  • Strong ability to craft community health and sentiment reports that inform decision-making across teams.

  • Deep familiarity with Discord, Steam, and modern community engagement tools.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a tone rooted in empathy and clarity.

  • Highly organized, proactive, and comfortable operating in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience supporting global communities and multilingual audiences.

  • Familiarity with social listening, sentiment analysis, or community analytics platforms.

A deep love for Sky: Children of the Light and a passion for nurturing meaningful player experiences.

Perks:

• Paid Time Off, Holidays, and Two Weeks Winter Break

• Employees and their dependents get medical, dental, and vision coverage, regardless of their level, tenure, or position within the company. Moreover, these benefits start on the first day of the job—there’s no waiting period before they kick in.

• Pet Insurance for those who need it too.

• Compassionate leave for employees who needs to take care of their family members

• Pre-tax wellness stipend

• Pre-tax work from home stipend

• Access our savings plan (401K program) with company match

• Mental health resources including Headspace membership and Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

• Discount portal for everyday goods and services

• Employee inclusive and diversity initiatives such as Grow Together

• Support for personal professional development

We look forward to meeting you!
