Thank you for considering Progyny!

Progyny’s mission puts our technology platform in the enviable position of very evident purpose: directly supporting the family building journey of millions of individuals. The DevOps guild members directly support this through the design and support of the automated, repeatable build and deployment of our solutions to ensure an exceptional experience for our members and lowest-friction developer experience.

While embedded in the API & Business Services team, this role remains an active participant in the DevOps Guild contributing to platform-wide standards.  Our platform follows the goal of being cloud native with modern patterns, thoughtful selection of technology solutions, a clear eye on security/privacy control considerations among multiple other sibling non-functional considerations. We aspire to provide efficient and reliable GitOps and automation.  We are social beings that emphasize communication and collaboration through the mechanisms like practice guilds, peer development, documenting our decisions and plans, and maintaining awareness of industry patterns and practices evolution.

What you’ll do…

As a Senior DevOps Engineer you will help deliver reliable pipelines and platforms.   You are a member of a lean remote team of experienced polyglot engineers adept at software engineering, new technology introduction, and effective collaboration at a distance.  In this role, you will primarily support the API & Business Services team, which serves as the centralized integration and data services layer for the company, enabling secure and scalable access to internal and external systems. You will be responsible for working directly with a pod of engineers to support automated, repeatable build and deploy of solutions and services across our technology platform, with the goals of improving developer experience, automating more quality goal assurance functions, and helping to support the effective team sport that is solutions engineering at Progyny.

About you…

  • 7+ years in DevOps or platform engineering roles for a moderate-to-large sized software engineering organization

  • Experience with containerized environments and considerations is a must (Helm charts, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)

  • Solid experience with IaC (Infrastructure as Code) models and Terraform/HCL conventions (control logic, patterns and composition, etc.)

  • 5+ years GitOps automation on common SCM platforms (GitHub, GitLab)

  • Deep experience with Git-flow and code branch management models & considerations (ex: trunk-based vs. Feature-based)

  • 3+ years working with AWS (ex: VPC, IAM, etc.)

  • Proven ability to anticipate CI/CD considerations for distinct platform components and environment constraints (example: Web/SPA vs. Data pipelines)

  • Proven experience with various build and package management solutions and toolchains (ex: Jenkins, GitHub actions, NPM, Maven, PyPi, etc.)

  • Demonstratable knowledge of authentication and authorization access patterns (ex: OIDC, common flows, etc.)

  • Experience deploying and maintaining observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Sentry or Highligh.io (self-hosted).

  • Demonstratable networking knowledge (TCP stack, CIDRs, DNS, troubleshooting, etc.)

  • Familiarity with orchestrating modern data platforms (ex: Dagster, Apache Airflow)

  • Experience supporting API gateway middleware such as KrakenD or alternatives (Kong, Tyk).

  • Experience evaluating or implementing internal developer tools (e.g. Airtable, Budibase, Metabase, n8n, OpenMetaData)

  • Demonstratable security knowledge (PKI, restricted data, etc.) and integration to relevant source systems (authorization store, certificate managers, secrets managers, etc.)

  • Demonstratable Linux and shell skills

  • Demonstratable SCM skills

  • Comfortability with Bash and Python

  • Some experience working in a regulated business environment (ex: Healthcare) is a plus

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
