Position Overview

Interdependence is seeking a seasoned Senior Account Director, Energy to lead high-profile accounts in the energy and sustainability sectors. This role requires deep expertise in energy communications, a strong grasp of the evolving energy landscape—including renewables, clean tech, utilities, and policy—and proven experience leading large energy accounts within a PR agency. The Senior Account Director will serve as a trusted advisor to senior clients, driving impactful campaigns, managing talented teams, and delivering measurable results that position our clients as leaders in their fields.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead strategy and execution for a portfolio of energy-sector clients, ensuring programs are aligned with client business goals.
  • Serve as the primary senior contact for clients, providing counsel, strategic insight, and crisis/issues management support when needed.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with top-tier media, industry publications, and stakeholders in the energy and sustainability ecosystem.
  • Oversee account teams, ensuring high-quality work, efficient workflows, and strong professional growth opportunities for staff.
  • Manage budgets, staffing, and resources to ensure profitability and account success.
  • Drive thought leadership campaigns and executive visibility programs for energy industry clients.
  • Collaborate with internal teams on integrated marketing initiatives, including digital, social, and content strategies.
  • Identify opportunities for organic growth and actively participate in new business development, including proposals and pitches.
  • Stay current on industry trends, regulatory developments, and innovations impacting energy and sustainability.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of PR, communications, or related experience, with the majority in a PR agency setting.
  • Must have direct agency experience leading energy-sector accounts and serving as senior client lead.
  • Extensive expertise in the energy sector—renewable energy, clean tech, utilities, oil & gas, or related fields.
  • Proven success leading integrated PR campaigns for major energy clients.
  • Established media relationships with energy, business, and policy journalists.
  • Strong leadership experience, including managing teams and overseeing account budgets.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills.
  • Crisis and issues management experience in energy or highly regulated industries is a strong plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
