Our Vision:

NationSwell is a one-of-a-kind executive membership and advisory firm for mission-driven leaders and their organizations. Our Institutional Membership (IM) is an invitation-only program for leading companies, philanthropies, investment firms, and nonprofit organizations, designed to help leaders advance their work in social impact, sustainability, philanthropy, and purpose-driven culture. The NationSwell Studio works with leaders in the impact space to create transformative social impact strategies, provide in-depth research and insights, engage key audiences, and more.

The Opportunity:

The Senior Director, Growth is a senior individual contributor responsible for driving net-new growth across Institutional Membership and Studio services. We are seeking an experienced, commercially-driven business development leader with executive presence and deep experience selling to leaders across corporate social impact, CSR, public affairs, and/or philanthropy. This leader owns pipeline development, deal strategy, and close for new memberships, while collaborating closely with members and internal teams to identify, advance, and close cross-sell and upsell opportunities within existing accounts.

This role plays a critical part in shaping NationSwell’s presence within the corporate social impact and private philanthropy landscape. Success requires strong commercial instincts, a nuanced understanding of executive priorities, and the ability to position NationSwell as a high-value strategic partner rather than a transactional vendor.

Focus Areas:

To excel in this role, candidates must bring:

  • A deep, established network across corporate social impact, CSR, public affairs, private philanthropy, donor collaboratives, and/or philanthropic advisory ecosystems.
  • Demonstrated success engaging and selling to senior decision-makers, including foundation presidents, corporate citizenship and sustainability leaders, public affairs executives, and philanthropic principals.
  • A proven ability to originate, advance, and close complex, relationship-driven deals through warm introductions, thought leadership, convenings, and trusted advisory relationships.
  • Comfort operating in consultative sales motions that require credibility, patience, and strong narrative framing.

The salary for this position is $125,000-$140,000 base plus uncapped commission.

Key Responsibilities:

Grow Membership Practice (75%)

  • Own net-new revenue generation for Institutional Membership and Studio services across assigned segments and territories, working with internal team members to support outbound efforts.
  • Build, manage, and convert a high-quality pipeline through proactive outreach, network activation, events, insights, and strategic relationship-building.
  • Develop and execute a clear go-to-market strategy aligned to priority audiences within an assigned territory of corporate social impact and/or private philanthropy.
  • Leverage and expand an existing executive network to generate warm introductions and high-probability opportunities.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to develop compelling narratives and proposals that resonate with senior decision-makers.

Support for IMs & Generation of Expansion Opportunities (20%)

  • Ensure seamless handoff of new accounts to the member servicing team.
  • Provide strategic leadership and executive sponsorship across member accounts and segments to help account leads provide value, delight, drive renewal, and cross-sell.
  • Act as a thought partner to account leads, helping deepen executive relationships and surface opportunities for Studio services, sponsorships, and membership upgrades.
  • Identify and close expansion opportunities including Studio services and membership tier upgrades.
  • Represent NationSwell in select member and external experiences to support relationship deepening and opportunity development.

Contribute to IM Management Team, Content, and Programming (5%)

  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to Membership and Growth leadership, bringing market insight and executive feedback into program evolution, content development, and service innovation.
  • Collaborate with Insights and Events teams to inform research agendas, convenings, and offerings that resonate with corporate social impact and/or philanthropic leaders.

Requirements
  • At least 8 years of experience in business development, partnerships, or advisory sales within social impact, CSR, public affairs, private philanthropy, consulting, or adjacent fields.
  • Proven success owning and closing complex, relationship-driven deals with senior executives.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed revenue targets through disciplined pipeline management and strong closing instincts.
  • Deep networks and credibility across corporate social impact, corporate philanthropy, and private philanthropy.
  • Strong understanding of philanthropic trends, social impact frameworks, and executive decision-making dynamics.
  • Experience developing and executing go-to-market strategies in high-touch, consultative sales environments.
  • High commercial acumen paired with curiosity, creativity, and entrepreneurial drive.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence senior audiences.
  • Thrives in fast-moving, mission-driven organizations and values collaboration and shared success.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
