Role Description

Dropbox is expanding its capabilities in AI-powered security, content access governance, and data loss prevention (DLP) to help SMB and mid-market businesses secure and manage their content with enterprise-grade protection. Following our acquisition of Nira, we have taken the first steps to integrate its data access governance technology into Dropbox Dash. Now, we are focused on deepening this integration across the Dropbox portfolio and expanding our security offering in the broader data access governance and DLP markets.

We are looking for a Senior Director, Head of Product to lead this next phase—defining the strategy, shaping the roadmap, and scaling a new security business within Dropbox. This is a 0 → 1 opportunity to establish Dropbox as a leader in cloud security for SMBs and mid-market companies, bringing AI-driven access governance, insider risk protection, and compliance automation to businesses that need it most.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the strategy for integrating Nira’s governance capabilities more deeply within Dropbox while also creating a standalone security offering that serves the broader market.
  • Leverage AI and automation to streamline access control, enforce real-time DLP policies, and detect security risks, making security intelligent and frictionless for mid-market businesses.
  • Identify gaps in the SMB/mid-market security space, establish Dropbox’s unique value proposition, and build a long-term product and GTM strategy to scale adoption.
  • Work with engineering and design teams to develop automated access reviews, AI-powered security insights, and compliance-driven workflows that enhance Dropbox’s security offerings.
  • Partner with marketing, sales, and partnerships to define packaging, pricing, and distribution models for Dropbox’s expanding security product line
  • Engage with SMB and mid-market customers to deeply understand their security challenges and shape the roadmap accordingly.
  • Work with engineering, security, compliance, and GTM teams to ensure products align with industry standards (SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, etc.) and deliver a seamless experience.

Requirements

  • Security Product Leadership: 10+ years of product management experience, with at least 5 years leading security product teams in DLP, access governance, threat detection, insider risk, or compliance.
  • 0 → 1 Product Builder: Proven track record of launching and scaling security products from inception, ideally within a large tech company, security startup, or enterprise SaaS business
  • AI & Security Expertise: Experience integrating AI/ML into security solutions, especially in areas like automated access controls, risk detection, or data protection.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Strong ability to influence engineering, security, GTM, and legal teams, with a balance of technical depth and business strategy.
  • Customer-Centric Mindset: Passion for solving customer pain points, with a track record of delivering security products that are both powerful and easy to use.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Executive Communication: Ability to engage and present to senior leadership and external stakeholders, clearly articulating complex security concepts and business outcomes.
  • Customer Advocacy: Experience building advisory boards or other customer feedback mechanisms to inform product strategy and ensure market fit.
  • Market Insight: Deep understanding of the SMB and mid-market security landscape, including competitor offerings, emerging trends, and customer needs.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
