The Basics:
The Senior Director, Revenue Accounting, serves as a key leader not only in overseeing the company’s revenue accounting operations but also as a cross-functional partner, collaborating closely with teams across sales, finance, product, and beyond. This position is responsible for ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of all revenue-related financial reporting, and for establishing and maintaining robust revenue recognition policies aligned with industry standards. By actively engaging with diverse stakeholders, you will help shape and influence the company’s broader strategic goals, ensuring revenue processes and priorities are fully integrated into organizational objectives. This leader will head a high-performing team, cultivate strong cross-departmental relationships, and champion continuous improvement to optimize processes, manage risk, and drive business growth across the enterprise.
This position follows the Company’s hybrid schedule which currently requires employees to work in the office at one of the following locations a minimum of three days per week: Bellevue, WA; Emeryville, CA
What you’ll do:
- Oversee the revenue accounting function, ensuring accurateand timely recording of revenue transactions and accounting for sales commissions.
- Develop and implement revenue recognition policies and procedures in compliance with relevant accounting standards.
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue close processes, including the preparation of management reporting.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, finance, sales operations, and deal desk to ensure alignment on revenue-related matters.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the revenue accounting team, fostering a culture of excellence and performance
- Monitor and analyze revenue trends, identifypotential risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements related to revenue accounting.
- Support external audits and reviews, providing necessary documentation and explanations for revenue-related inquiries.
- Drive improvements and automation initiatives to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the revenue accounting function.
- Work closely with pricing and packaging teams to ensure revenue recognition aligns with evolving product offerings and pricing structures, facilitatingsmooth integration of new initiatives into accounting processes.
- Partner with the product team to assess the revenue impact of new features and product launches, ensuring accounting practices are proactively aligned with evolving business strategies.
- Stay updated on industry trends and changes in accounting standards, providing recommendations for adjustments to revenue recognition practices.
We’re looking for someone with:
- BA/BS in Accounting or Finance
- 10+ years of relevant work experience
- CPA required (active or inactive)
- Public accounting experience required
- Proficiency in ASC 606 and strong understanding of US GAAP
- Has experience leading a team

What you’ll get
The annual base salary range for this full-time position is $160,000 to $475,000. This range is an estimate for what Tanium will pay a new hire. The actual annual base salary offered may be adjusted based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, location, education, skills, training, and experience.
