About the Team
Our School Nutrition team builds high-transaction-volume software that processes over 1 billion meal transactions annually across thousands of school districts. This is mission-critical infrastructure: it must work during the lunch rush, every school day, in cafeterias nationwide. We're building the next generation of nutrition management technology to help schools operate more efficiently while ensuring every student has access to healthy meals.
About the Position
As Director of Engineering for School Nutrition Products, you'll own the technical strategy for a platform that handles millions of point-of-sale transactions daily. You'll lead multiple engineering teams, drive modernization of our technology stack, and collaborate closely with product, sales, consulting, and customer support to ensure we're solving real problems for school districts.
This role requires someone who can balance strategic vision with operational execution. You should be equally comfortable defining a multi-year architecture roadmap and unblocking a team struggling with a production issue.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead software modernization initiatives, transforming legacy systems into scalable, cloud-native architectures while maintaining reliability for districts that depend on us daily
- Partner with Architecture to design systems that handle high transaction volumes with low latency across distributed school environments, including offline and intermittent connectivity scenarios
- Evaluate and roll out modern development tools, including AI-assisted coding platforms, to accelerate delivery and improve code quality
- Build and maintain data infrastructure that enables reporting, analytics, and actionable insights for school nutrition operations
- Manage engineering resources, budget, and schedule across multiple projects; estimate scope, cost, and timeline for new initiatives
- Communicate project status, risks, and tradeoffs to clients, stakeholders, and senior leadership
- Mentor and develop engineering talent; build a team culture where people do their best work
What We Are Looking For:
- 8+ years in software development, architecture, and design, with at least 3 years leading engineering teams of 15+ engineers
- Experience building and scaling high-transaction-volume systems (point-of-sale, payments, e-commerce, or similar platforms processing millions of daily transactions)
- Track record in software modernization: migrating legacy systems to cloud architectures, microservices, and API-first designs
- Experience managing blended teams (onshore/offshore, FTE/contractor) and navigating platform consolidations or technology integrations
- Strong technical foundation in .NET/C#, SQL Server, and modern web technologies (React, Angular, JavaScript)
- Fluency in Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD practices
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both engineers and business stakeholders
What Will Make You Stand Out:
- Hands-on experience shipping production applications with AI coding assistants
- Experience in school nutrition, food service management, point-of-sale systems, or K-12 EdTech
- Experience architecting for offline-first or intermittent connectivity scenarios
- Background in B2B SaaS across various stages of the product lifecycle
