About Psomagen

Psomagen is a U.S. genomics services company headquartered in Maryland, operating CLIA/CAP-certified laboratories. We support academic, foundation-funded, pharma and clinical customers with short- and long-read sequencing, genotyping arrays, single-cell, spatial and proteomics services, and bioinformatics. We are expanding our role from a high-quality data provider to a long-term research partner for large, multi-year programs.

The Role

We are hiring a senior, network-driven business development leader to originate and shape large research projects and strategic partnerships with pharmaceutical and biotech companies, research foundations, consortia and government-funded programs. You will be a hands-on individual contributor. You open the doors, build the relationships, structure the opportunity and lead it through negotiation. Our commercial team then follows up and closes the deal, and our project management team delivers it. This role carries no team management and no territory quota.

What you'll do

  • Identify, pursue and shape large-scale research opportunities (multi-year, multi-site, or high-volume sequencing and multiomics programs, typically $1M+ in total contract value) through your existing network and new outreach
  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships at pharma and biotech R&D organizations, foundations, disease consortia and funding agencies
  • Translate customer scientific goals into a Psomagen solution, working with our scientific and operations leads on scope, feasibility, timelines and pricing within company guidelines
  • Lead early- and mid-stage negotiation through to a defined handoff point (agreed scope, commercial terms in principle, NDA/MSA status), then transition the opportunity to the sales team to follow up and close
  • Support grant-linked and consortium bids with partner introductions, proposal input and customer-facing presentations
  • Represent Psomagen at key conferences and customer meetings, and share market and competitive intelligence with leadership
  • Keep opportunity records current in our CRM (HubSpot) so the pipeline stays visible

Required Qualifications

  • 12+ years in genomics, NGS or multiomics commercial roles (business development, strategic accounts or sales leadership) at a sequencing service provider, platform or consumables vendor, CRO or core-facility-type organization
  • Demonstrated track record originating and closing programs of $1M+ with pharma/biotech and/or foundations, consortia or government-funded programs
  • An established U.S. network of senior R&D, translational, genomics or procurement decision-makers
  • Working knowledge of the technology landscape (short-read, long-read, single-cell, spatial, proteomics) and the ability to discuss study design credibly with scientists
  • Understanding of regulatory tiers (RUO vs. CLIA/CAP vs. GCLP/GLP) and how to position a service accurately within them
  • Experience negotiating complex agreements (MSAs, SOWs, data-handling and confidentiality terms)
  • Self-directed and comfortable working remotely, with travel of approximately [30-40]% to customers and conferences
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Advanced degree (PhD/MS) in life sciences preferred; a BS with deep industry experience will also be considered

Preferred

  • Experience with pharma biomarker or translational programs, large cohort or population-scale sequencing, or foundation-funded research
  • Exposure to selling regulated-environment (GCLP/CLIA) services
  • Familiarity with HubSpot or a similar CRM

Benefits

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance (100% employer-paid premium)
  • 401K with immediate participation and company match after 1 year
  • Paid time-off with roll over option
  • Long-term employment cashable vacation
  • 2-hour off for an annual check-up
  • Lunch allowance and drinkware reimbursement
  • Visa sponsorship is offered when needed
  • Money Gifts for congratulatory/condolences
  • Free gym facilities near the company

Compensation

  • Base salary range: $130,000 to $170,000, depending on experience, plus a substantial performance-based bonus for successful partnerships

  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
