NELSON is seeking an experienced and technically skilled Senior Electrical Engineer (PE) to join our Electrical Engineering team. In this role, you will leverage your extensive technical expertise and industry experience to lead electrical design efforts for moderate to large facility and infrastructure projects and deliver innovative solutions for a diverse client base. A successful candidate will provide leadership throughout the design process, developing and reviewing conceptual and detailed electrical designs, specifications, calculations, studies, and reports while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements. The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead small electrical teams, coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams, interface with clients and company leadership, and provide training and development to less experienced staff. This role will also contribute to business and project management activities, including proposal development and workload forecasting, while supporting construction administration and serving as a technical resource for complex electrical engineering challenges.

Extensive experience in facility electrical system design, including medium-voltage electrical design, is required. Professional Engineer License (PE) in Electrical Engineering is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Provide design support on facility and infrastructure design projects
  • Review and mark-up of electrical design packages
  • Effectively lead electrical design efforts on moderate to large projects
  • Aid in administrative tasks (proposal writing, workload forecasting, etc)
  • Study design criteria, codes, and standards and incorporate required design practices into production of design deliverables
  • Develop conceptual and detailed designs for facilities and infrastructure projects based on scope of project, design criteria and applicable codes and standards
  • Assist with gathering field data to support development of design deliverables
  • Review and observe construction progress on projects to verify compliance with design deliverables (e.g. RFI responses, progress observation reports, etc.)
  • Duties to include specifications, calculations, studies, reports, shop drawing review, construction administration, and training/development
  • Coordinate with other disciplines
  • Attend client meetings to discuss facility infrastructure needs
  • Interface with company management and lead small electrical team

Education / Experience:

    • Professional Engineer License (PE) in Electrical Engineering required
    • Extensive experience providing facility electrical system design services required
    • Industrial project experience required
    • Experience with medium voltage electrical design required
    • BS graduate in Engineering from an ABET accredited school required
    • 10+ years’ experience in building design of power, lighting, fire alarm and secondary electrical systems
    • Experience with creating construction specifications required
    • Extensive experience with power system analysis using SKM and/or Easypower
    • Experience with use/navigation of 3D BIM/Drafting/Modeling tools for creation of design deliverables is preferred. Proficiency with Autodesk REVIT 3D modeling preferred

    Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
    Duties will typically be performed in an office environment, at construction sites for new facilities, or at existing facilities undergoing renovation. Periodic travel will be required for site visits and client meetings.


    National average salary range: $130,000 – $175,000 (10+ years experience). Additional compensation includes bonuses and benefits (compensation factors are based upon years of relevant experience, qualifications/licensure, education, and location.) Bonuses can include but are not limited to: Long Term Incentive Plan, Short Term Incentive Plan, Profit Sharing
