Our Newest Opportunity:

The Senior Financial Benefit Consultant is a senior-level individual contributor responsible for leading financial strategy, underwriting analysis, and data-driven consulting within this segment. This role operates as a core member of a high-performing, cross-functional client team, partnering closely with Producers, Managing Consultants, Senior Benefit Consultants, and Account Management to deliver a seamless and strategic client experience.

While this is a senior consulting role, it remains highly hands-on. The Senior Financial Benefit Consultant is expected to directly own and produce complex financial analysis, underwriting, and reporting deliverables—not solely delegate or review the work of others.

You will join a team of high-performing peers who operate with urgency, alignment, and accountability—running fast and tight together to deliver consistent, high-impact outcomes. This role requires a proven track record supporting large, complex clients and is not designed as a developmental opportunity. Success in this position requires the ability to operate independently, think strategically, and execute with precision from day one.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

Financial Strategy, Underwriting & Analysis

This role is responsible for both the development and execution of all financial analysis.

  • Personally develop and produce financial models, underwriting analysis, and reporting for complex clients
  • Lead financial strategy while owning the underlying analysis, assumptions, and outputs
  • Build and maintain detailed financial models, including:
    • Renewal projections and rate development
    • Claims trend analysis and forecasting
    • IBNR and reserve evaluation
    • Stop-loss strategy and optimization
  • Analyze claims, utilization, and cost drivers to identify risks, inefficiencies, and cost containment opportunities
  • Evaluate and model alternative funding arrangements (self-funded, level-funded, captives, and other risk-sharing strategies)
  • Develop and deliver client-ready financial exhibits and reporting for renewals, stewardship meetings, and long-term planning
  • Ensure accuracy, integrity, and consistency of all financial data and reporting

Client Consulting & Strategic Partnership

  • Serve as the financial subject matter expert for assigned clients, advising on funding strategy, plan design, and cost management
  • Translate complex financial and underwriting concepts into clear, actionable insights for executive-level audiences
  • Participate in and present during client meetings, including renewals, quarterly reviews, and strategic planning sessions
  • Align financial insights with broader consulting strategy to support client business objectives

Renewal & Carrier Strategy

  • Lead financial components of the renewal process, including modeling, analysis, and rate validation
  • Partner with carriers and vendors to validate data, challenge assumptions, and improve financial outcomes
  • Support negotiation strategy through data-driven insights and financial positioning
  • Model plan design and contribution strategies to support client decision-making

Producer & Growth Partnership

  • Partner with Producers and Consultants to support new business and organic growth opportunities
  • Participate in prospect meetings where financial expertise is required
  • Develop financial models and projections to support sales strategy and solution design
  • Help articulate the financial value of proposed strategies in a compelling and client-relevant way

Team Leadership & Integration

  • Operate as a core leader within the client team, influencing strategy and execution without direct authority
  • Partner closely with Senior Account Managers and Consultants to ensure alignment between financial strategy and service delivery
  • Contribute to a high-performance team environment, operating with speed, accountability, and precision
  • Mentor and support Financial Analysts and junior team members as appropriate
  • Contribute to best practices, tools, and standardization across the financial consulting function

Hands-On Execution Expectations

  • Maintain direct ownership of core analytical work, including modeling, reporting, and underwriting
  • Operate effectively without reliance on a large support structure; able to independently build, analyze, and deliver financial outputs
  • Balance strategic consulting responsibilities with consistent execution of detailed, high-quality work
  • Step in as needed to ensure delivery, regardless of level or task

Decision-Making & Problem Solving

  • Exercise strong judgment in ambiguous, high-stakes financial and client scenarios
  • Identify risks proactively and recommend strategic mitigation approaches
  • Lead resolution of financial discrepancies, reporting challenges, and data issues

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements:

  • Demonstrated expertise in underwriting, financial modeling, and healthcare cost analysis
  • Deep knowledge of self-funded and alternative funding strategies
  • Proven experience supporting large, complex clients (3,000+ lives)
  • Demonstrated ability to independently build and own complex financial models and underwriting analysis (not solely review or oversee)
  • Strong ability to translate complex data into strategic, executive-level insights
  • Executive presence with the ability to engage and influence senior client stakeholders
  • Ability to operate effectively within a high-performing, matrixed team environment
  • Strong business acumen and consultative mindset
  • Ability to manage multiple complex priorities with speed, accuracy, and accountability
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial modeling tools

Education, Training and Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in employee benefits financial consulting, underwriting, or actuarial-related roles
  • Proven track record supporting enterprise or jumbo group clients
  • Bachelor’s degree required (Finance, Mathematics, Economics, Actuarial Science, or related field preferred)
  • Advanced Excel skills required; experience with analytics platforms preferred
  • Life & Health License required
  • Actuarial coursework or designations preferred (not required)

The typical base pay range for this role is $150,000 - $170,000

Your base pay is dependent upon your skills, education, qualifications, professional experience, and location. In addition to base pay, some roles are eligible for variable compensation, commission, and/or annual bonus based on your individual performance and/or the company’s performance. We also offer eligible employees health, wellbeing, retirement, and other financial benefits, paid time off, overtime pay for non-exempt employees, and robust learning and development programs. You will receive reimbursement of job-related expenses per the company policy and may receive employee perks and discounts.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
