The role is expected to operate with significant independence, apply advanced knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Farm Credit reporting requirements, exercise professional judgment in complex accounting and reporting matters, and influence outcomes through cross-functional partnership.

Essential Duties:

  • Prepare and review the Association’s financial, shareholder, regulatory, and District reporting in compliance with GAAP, Farm Credit Administration (FCA) regulations, District Bank requirements, and established internal standards.
  • Apply advanced technical accounting and reporting knowledge to research, analyze, and resolve complex or emerging financial reporting matters; document conclusions and communicate impacts to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for reporting processes, data flows, and data elements, including Alteryx workflow development, testing, and issue resolution.
  • Critically evaluate and challenge the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data used in financial and regulatory reporting; identify anomalies, investigate root causes, and coordinate timely resolution.
  • Perform and review general ledger account reconciliations and documentation that facilitate management review, regulatory examinations, and internal and external audits.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including journal entries, loan and general ledger extracts, analysis of significant accounts, reporting validations, and communication of close status.
  • Lead the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of Financial Reporting workflows, work instructions, documentation, and training materials to support consistent execution, audit readiness, knowledge transfer, and operational scalability.
  • Leverage Power BI, Power Query, Alteryx, Excel, and other approved tools to develop and maintain reports, automate recurring activities, analyze trends, respond to audit requests, and support ad hoc business needs.
  • Provide expertise related to the Association’s data catalog and financial-reporting data requirements; help define business data elements, ownership, lineage, controls, and reporting uses.
  • Evaluate internal controls over financial reporting within assigned processes; identify weaknesses or inefficiencies and recommend enhancements that improve control effectiveness, compliance, documentation, and automation.
  • Coordinate and support internal and external audits, regulatory examinations, and related requests by preparing clear, complete, and well-supported documentation.
  • Train and mentor team members on reporting requirements, systems, data, controls, and procedures, helping build technical depth and reduce reliance on individual subject matter experts.
  • Proactively identify, communicate, and implement process improvements that increase efficiency, consistency, data quality, control effectiveness, and scalability.
  • Represent Financial Reporting and American AgCredit professionally in communications with auditors, examiners and other internal stakeholders.
  • Strengthen controls and governance through higher-quality review, reliable documentation, disciplined data stewardship, and sustained audit readiness.
  • Serve as a trusted subject matter expert for Financial Accounting and Association priorities, providing technical leadership, advancing key initiatives, and influencing cross-functional decisions that strengthen reporting, governance, and organizational performance.
  • Build scalable financial reporting capabilities by formalizing process ownership, subject matter expertise, cross-training, and knowledge transfer.
  • Improve efficiency and effectiveness through thoughtful use of data, systems, analytics, automation, and process redesign.
  • Support organizational growth and complexity by providing advanced technical capacity for expanding regulatory, shareholder, system, and data requirements.
  • Connect accounting execution with enterprise data and reporting initiatives so that financial information remains complete, consistent, traceable, and decision-useful.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge

  • Advanced knowledge of general accounting procedures, GAAP, financial reporting, regulatory reporting, general-ledger processes, and internal controls.
