  • Mentoring junior staff by providing technical guidance, quality assurance, and career development support.
  • Engaging directly with tribes, state and federal agencies, conservation districts, and non-profits to deliver high-impact restoration outcomes.

What Are We Looking For?

We’re seeking a collaborative, solutions-oriented geomorphologist who is ready to step into a leadership role. The ideal candidate will have:

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in fluvial or coastal geomorphology.

  • 8 or more years of experience in fluvial geomorphology, river restoration, or related fields with a minimum of 3 years of project management experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in desktop and field based geomorphic assessment, channel evolution analysis, and process-based restoration design.
  • Proven ability to lead projects, including client engagement, scope and task management, budget oversight, and schedule coordination
  • Proficiency in hydraulic and hydrologic modeling (e.g., HEC-RAS 1D/2D, SRH-2D) and sediment transport or coastal drift modeling.
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro and related coding and geospatial analysis tools.
  • Experience with construction observation and field data collection.
  • Willingness to travel seasonally for field work and construction projects for up to 2 weeks at a time.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work across disciplines and with diverse stakeholders.

Desired but not required skills:

  • Expertise in large wood design, floodplain reconnection, and process-based restoration approaches.
  • Experience processing and coding large landcover and LiDAR data sets for reach and watershed scale geomorphic assessments
  • Experience with drone-based data collection and processing methods such as ortho photogrammetry
  • Familiarity with Pacific Northwest geomorphic systems, fisheries ecology, and regulatory processes.
  • Experience supporting proposal development and business growth initiatives.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
