Your opportunity
Our client is one of Canada's largest member-owned financial cooperatives, founded with a mission to make financial services more accessible and equitable. Today, the organization serves ~600,000 members, manages ~$42 billion in assets, and employs approximately ~2,700 people. Unlike traditional banks, our client is owned by its members rather than external shareholders, with a longstanding commitment to reinvesting in the communities it serves.
In a technology industry often characterized by venture-backed growth, shareholder returns, and the pursuit of liquidity events, our client offers a distinctly different proposition. As a member-owned financial cooperative, the organization is accountable to the members it serves rather than external investors, and directs 30% of its annual net income back to members and communities. Its commitment to social responsibility extends to its own workforce to whom they offer a defined-contribution pension, and has earned repeated recognition among Canada's top employers. For technologists, this creates an uncommon intersection of meaningful work, organizational stability, and technical ambition: the opportunity to modernize the infrastructure of a major financial institution whose success is measured not simply by commercial performance, but by the financial well-being of its members and the communities it serves.
The organization is undergoing a significant transformation and investing in digital banking, payments modernization, and the technology infrastructure needed to support its next chapter of growth. Following a return to profitability and a period of renewed investment, our client is simultaneously modernizing its technology landscape while continuing to operate the complex systems that underpin its existing business.
Integration engineering is central to this transformation. Our client operates a heterogeneous technology environment comprising a Temenos core banking platform, .NET-based services, MuleSoft integrations, and a growing Microsoft Azure footprint. Historically, much of its .NET integration infrastructure has operated on-premises, while a substantial portion of its cloud-based integrations have focused on the integration of MuleSoft. The organization is now building a new Azure-native integration platform, with initial delivery targeted for FY2027, and is investing in the engineering capabilities needed to support this evolution.
As a Senior Integration Engineer, you'll join the Integration Platform team and report to the Senior Manager of this team. You'll play a hands-on role in designing and developing this emerging Azure integration architecture, bringing the cloud engineering expertise needed to complement the team's established .NET capabilities. The opportunity extends beyond individual contribution: you'll help establish architectural patterns, provide technical direction to small groups of engineers, and collaborate with infrastructure and other engineering teams to bring new services into production.
Key responsibilities
- Integration architecture & engineering: Design, build, and maintain enterprise integrations and backend services using C#, .NET, and Azure Integration Services
- Cloud-native platform development: Help establish our client's emerging Azure integration platform, applying serverless and cloud-native design patterns
- Event-driven systems: Design asynchronous messaging and event-driven integrations, incorporating appropriate patterns for message delivery, ordering, retries, dead-letter handling, fault tolerance, and observability
- Technical leadership: Provide hands-on technical direction to small groups of engineers, contributing to architectural decisions, implementation priorities, knowledge sharing, and the development of team capabilities
- Cross-functional collaboration: Communicate regularly with the cloud infrastructure, software engineering, product, and security teams to translate integration requirements into practical architectures and production-ready services
- Integration modernization: Support the evolution of a heterogeneous integration environment spanning on-premises .NET services, MuleSoft, and Azure-native technologies, identifying opportunities to improve interoperability, maintainability, and architectural consistency
- Performance & reliability: Engineer integrations for throughput, availability, security, and cost efficiency, implementing monitoring, logging, and alerting to improve production visibility and troubleshooting
- Engineering enablement: Advance CI/CD, automation, reusable integration patterns, and technical documentation to reduce operational dependencies on institutional knowledge and improve development velocity
- AI-assisted engineering: Explore practical applications of AI-assisted development, automation, and agentic tooling that can improve engineering productivity, code quality, or operational efficiency
Technical ecosystem
The technologies below represent the broader system engineers are building within rather than a checklist of tools every engineer is expected to use day to day.
- Backend: C#, .NET, object-oriented programming, service-oriented architectures
- Azure integration platform: Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Service Bus, API Management, Azure Serverless
- Existing integration environment: MuleSoft, on-premises .NET web services, enterprise APIs
- Event streaming & messaging: Azure Event Hubs, Apache Kafka, asynchronous messaging patterns
- Observability: Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Log Analytics
- DevOps & automation: Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Infrastructure as Code, GitHub Copilot
- Security: OAuth 2.0, Azure AD, RBAC, encryption, secure API and messaging practices
Your know-how
- You have 7+ years of backend software engineering experience, with expertise in C#, .NET, and Microsoft Azure
- You have a strong grounding in object-oriented programming, software architecture, and the development of scalable, production-grade backend services
- You have hands-on experience designing and implementing cloud-native integrations using Azure Integration Services
- You have a robust understanding of cloud architecture and infrastructure concepts and the ability to make informed architectural decisions in collaboration with dedicated infrastructure teams
- You have experience designing service-oriented and event-driven systems, including asynchronous messaging, distributed systems, and associated reliability patterns
- You have production experience with API development, authentication, authorization, and secure integration practices
- You have experience providing technical direction to other engineers, including architectural guidance, implementation planning, mentorship, and knowledge sharing
- You have strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the confidence to lead technical discussions across teams, challenge assumptions, surface blockers, and articulate architectural trade-offs
- You have a proactive, ownership-oriented approach to engineering, with an appetite for building new capabilities rather than exclusively working within established systems
It's a bonus if
- You have hands-on experience integrating MuleSoft in an scaled enterprise environment
- You have contributed to a modernization initiative that spanned both on-premises and cloud infrastructure
- You have led small engineering teams or delivery workstreams while remaining hands-on
- You have applied AI-assisted development tools, custom agents, or engineering automation to deliver demonstrable improvements in productivity, quality, or business outcomes
- You have established observability, operational documentation, or production-support practices within complex enterprise integration environments
- You have experience working in banking, financial services, or another highly regulated industry
