As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will drive commercial success by reviewing and negotiating contracts, providing strategic legal support across business teams, and ensuring compliance with local laws for global operations.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Based in the US East Coast, you will serve as a key pillar of our global Legal team and act as the primary strategic partner for our rapidly expanding North American go-to-market operations. You will collaborate closely with the Berlin-based HQ but will operate with significant autonomy to drive deal velocity and manage risk in our largest growth market.

We are looking for a pragmatic and commercial-first Lawyer whose core mission is to own and accelerate commercial contracting in the AMER region. In our high-growth environment, agility is essential. Beyond commercial transactions, you will act as a true generalist by fielding inquiries across privacy, employment, corporate, and tax matters as they arise in the region.

While you will be the expert on US matters, we need a lawyer with a global mindset. You should be comfortable navigating cross-border nuances and stepping in to support deals in other jurisdictions like EMEA or APAC when volume demands it. We are looking for someone who knows how to apply sound legal judgment outside their home jurisdiction and understands when to escalate specific local issues and contribute to refining playbooks and infrastructure needed to scale our operations efficiently.

ABOUT THE TEAM:

You will be the fourth addition to our growing Legal team. Together, we manage and own all legal aspects of our 4 entities worldwide. We value autonomy, pragmatism, and collaboration, and we take pride in combining legal expertise with a deep understanding of the business.

While the core team is based out of Berlin, Germany, this role would be a remote role with some travel required (ca. 1-2 times a year) to visit Headquarters.

ONCE YOU ARE HERE YOU WILL:

Drive Commercial Success:

  • Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including customer agreements (full B2B SaaS contracts incl. SLAs), partnership agreements, NDAs, and procurement contracts
  • Provide strategic legal support to Sales, Partnerships, Marketing, and Customer Success to enable frictionless deal cycles and renewals while protecting Talon. One’s interests
  • Help build and maintain scalable contract templates and negotiation playbooks for internal teams

Be a Trusted Legal Partner Across the Business:

  • Advise on go-to-market strategies, campaigns, product launches, and other business initiatives
  • Provide day-to-day legal advice and address ad hoc legal queries from all areas of Talon. One

Enable Smart Risk-Taking:

  • Translate legal concepts into practical, business-focused guidance that supports innovation without unnecessary delay
  • Proactively identify legal risks and propose creative, pragmatic solutions

Support Global Expansion:

  • Help ensure our commercial practices and operations comply with relevant local laws in key markets
  • Support corporate structuring, international contracting, and general entity matters in collaboration with the Director Legal

Contribute to Legal Infrastructure:

  • Help build and maintain internal legal playbooks, FAQ libraries, self-service tools, and guidelines for internal stakeholders
  • Contribute to team operations and knowledge sharing, and support cross-training within the Legal Team and wider organization to ensure business continuity

WHAT WE NEED YOU TO BRING TO THE TABLE:

  • You are a US-qualified lawyer with at least 5 years of post-qualification experience in commercial, IP/IT, or tech law (either in-house at a SaaS/tech company or from a reputable law firm). Start-up experience is a strong plus
  • You have demonstrable experience negotiating complex B2B agreements across borders and are comfortable handling contracts outside your primary jurisdiction when needed
  • You don’t just spot issues but are able to deliver practical, business-minded solutions that scale across the organization and can communicate complex legal concepts clearly
  • You can work autonomously while also collaborating and lead effectively with cross-functional teams
  • You are a fast learner and thrive in a fast-paced, hybrid environment, managing multiple matters simultaneously
  • You enjoy working as a strong individual contributor, working remotely in a small team in a growing company, with flexibility and responsibility

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU:
  • $1,200 annual learning budget and full LinkedIn Learning access
  • Manage your own time off with our flexible PTO policy
  • $350 home office setup budget, a $50 monthly home office allowance
  • Freedom to work from abroad for up to 90 days worldwide!
  • WeWork On-Demand access for flexible workspace solutions
  • Mental health support with nilo.health
  • Choose from top-tier Medical, Dental, and Vision plans (Blue Cross Blue Shield MA, MetLife, VSP)
  • Build your savings with our 401(k) plan, including a 100% company match on your contributions up to 4%
  • We provide 100% company-paid Life Insurance, Short-Term, and Long-Term Disability coverage

WHY YOU SHOULD WORK FOR US:

  • The right attitude: modern methods and a diverse, creative workspace with an open and international culture
  • Everyone for the product: Together we create a flexible, highly scalable product with state-of-the-art technologies. We can only succeed if everyone works as a team
  • Healthy Growth: Growing our company means growing everyone in the team. We love to share knowledge and learn
  • A great environment: Flexible and family-friendly environment, bright and easily accessible offices, modern software and hardware
  • High flexibility degree: Prefer to work early or late at night? Do you have to pick up your children from kindergarten? Do you prefer working abroad? We believe in results and motivated employees

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
