Spreetail is seeking a Sr Manager, Tax to own and scale the company’s global tax strategy and compliance as the business grows. Reporting to the Global Controller, this role will assess and optimize the domestic and international tax landscape, design planning strategies that reduce cash tax outflow and support transactions and expansion, and oversee global compliance across U.S. federal, multi-state, VAT, and other indirect taxes. Acting as the internal tax authority, the Sr. Manager will partner closely with the CFO, FP&A, and executive leaders, manage external advisors, pursue tax incentives, and build scalable processes that support long-term growth and public-company readiness—all with an “act like an owner” mindset and a high degree of autonomy.

How you will achieve success:

  • Own and lead Spreetail’s global tax function, including U.S. federal, multi-state, VAT, and other indirect tax compliance, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and scalability as the business grows.
  • Design and execute domestic and international tax planning strategies that reduce cash tax outflow, enable transactions and global expansion, and drive long-term shareholder value.
  • Serve as the internal tax authority and strategic partner, advising the Global Controller, CFO, FP&A, and executive leadership on transactions, structuring, and key business initiatives.
  • Manage and direct external tax advisors and a small internal team, holding accountability for outcomes while balancing cost, quality, and risk.
  • Build scalable tax processes and documentation to support continued growth and future public-company readiness, operating with a strong “act like an owner” mindset.

What experiences will help you in this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent professional designation strongly preferred (advanced degree a plus).
  • 6+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting and/or industry, with demonstrated ownership of complex tax matters.
  • Strong technical foundation in U.S. federal, multi-state, and indirect tax (SALT, VAT), with experience across partnership and C-corporation structures and working knowledge of ASC 740.
  • Proven experience in tax planning, cross-border structuring, and transaction or growth enablement, supporting business expansion and strategic initiatives.
  • Self-directed leader comfortable operating in ambiguity, with strong analytical and communication skills and a track record of managing external advisors while translating tax complexity into clear business insights.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
