The Role

At Amperity, we aim to define the standard for user experience in the CDP category. We are looking for a Senior Manager, Product Design, who is the face for our design initiatives. Reporting to the Senior Director - Product, you will not only design world-class features but also shape the strategic direction of our platform and help mentor the designers around you. This is a player/coach role where you'll roll up your sleeves to personally deliver design elegance, while also managing a small team of senior designers.

Interesting Problems
  • Drive Design Strategy: As the leader of the design initiatives, you establish operational objectives, work plans, policies, and practices for major design pillars, partnering with Product Management and Engineering leadership. You balance long-term vision with immediate tactical execution, which leads to effectively delegating assignments to team members.
  • Elevate the Craft: As a player/coach, you're a catalyst in raising the bar for design skills, mindset, and expertise that scales design awareness across the entire platform by advancing the use of artificial intelligence and rapid prototyping in our design process.
  • Champion the User: Develop and socialize a deep understanding of our customer base (data analysts and data engineers) and marketing users (marketing ops), turning complex data workflows into elegant, intuitive customer experiences.
  • Mentor & Multiply: Actively coach and provide high-level feedback to your team members, raising the bar for quality and consistency across the "small but mighty" design team. You understand the needs of the team and can partner with your HR and TA stakeholders to incrementally grow your team.
  • Evolve the Design Library: Oversee the continual evolution of our Figma Design Library. Exploring how best to move forward in the AI Era.
  • Bridge the Gap: Directly influence the implementation of our UI by contributing to our front-end component library, ensuring the "as-built" product matches the "as-designed" vision.
  • Facilitate Collaboration: Lead design sprints, workshops, and critique sessions that align cross-functional stakeholders around user-centric solutions.
  • Integrate AI: Accelerate velocity for the Design team by integrating AI into the design process, while keeping a human-in-the-loop, as we need the design team to keep pace with the rapid increase in velocity of the Engineering Team due to the introduction of Claude Code.
About You
  • 8+ years of experience designing complex web-based applications from concept to launch.
  • Enterprise Mastery: experience navigating the complexities of enterprise-level product design, including data-heavy workflows and multi-persona ecosystems.
  • AI Native: Experience developing AI and AI Native applications, including the ability to do rapid prototyping and iterate with customers.
  • Strategic Empathy: You don't just advocate for the user; you use data and research to influence product roadmap goals.
  • Communication Excellence: You are an expert at explaining the "why" behind design decisions to executive partners, engineering leads, and customers.
  • Ambiguity Ownership: You excel in the "fuzzy front end" of projects, creating clarity out of chaos and defining the path forward for others.
  • Technical Literacy: Proficiency in Figma and a working knowledge of HTML/CSS and component libraries. You view the code as part of the design process.
  • Industry knowledge: You have a background in designing & producing SaaS products with an emphasis on data-visualization tools or web-based marketing tools.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
