The Senior Network Engineer provides advanced networking expertise within the Managed Services organization and serves as a subject matter expert and senior escalation point for complex network and firewall issues.
In addition to resolving advanced incidents, this role contributes to technical leadership, root cause analysis, documentation, and the planning and implementation of network solutions delivered through Professional Services engagements.
Senior Network Engineers are expected to have deep expertise in enterprise networking and advanced firewall management across multiple platforms, with a strong focus on security, stability, and scalability of client environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the full lifecycle of complex network and firewall incidents, from detection through resolution and post-incident review, ensuring accountability for technical outcomes, stability, and documentation.
- Lead investigation and resolution of critical network incidents, driving coordination across internal teams, vendors, and customer stakeholders.
- Make technical decisions and take end-to-end ownership of network issues, driving resolution without reliance on further escalation.
- Lead technical delivery of network projects, including scoping, estimation, design, and implementation.
- Perform root cause analysis and develop long-term remediation strategies to prevent recurrence.
- Validate and approve network changes, designs, and remediation strategies.
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Cisco, Palo Alto, and Fortinet networking and firewall equipment.
- Conduct targeted cleanup and improvements of existing network environments to ensure stability and scalability, minimizing customer downtime.
- Collaborate with the security team to ensure proper network hardening is in place and that all risks are properly mitigated or remediated.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Contribute to architecture documentation, diagrams, and operational runbooks.
- Maintain awareness of developments within the networking and security technology landscape, recommending new solutions when necessary.
- Accurately track time and project activities within the company's time tracking system.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience within an MSP, VAR, ISP, NOC, or enterprise IT environment, with a focus on troubleshooting and maintaining existing network infrastructure.
- MUST BE fluent in English.
- Advanced, hands-on experience managing enterprise firewalls across multiple platforms — including Cisco (ASA/FTD/FMC), Palo Alto Networks (PAN-OS, Panorama), and Fortinet (FortiGate, FortiManager) — including policy design, rule optimization, VPN configuration, and threat prevention.
- Strong knowledge of networking protocols and technologies including TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, IPSec, SNMP, STP, VTP, and VLANs.
- Strong knowledge of network infrastructure within virtualized environments using VMware or similar platforms, including virtual networking, VLAN configurations, virtual switches, and network segmentation.
- Experience troubleshooting performance and connectivity issues across different OSI layers.
- Experience with application-level network troubleshooting, including packet inspection and analysis.
- Proven experience optimizing, securing, and consolidating complex legacy network environments to meet current and future business needs.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a customer-first approach to resolving network issues.
Preferred
- Active CCNP certification or equivalent (Palo Alto PCNSE or Fortinet NSE 4/7 also valued).
- Experience with Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) and enterprise voice/unified communications infrastructure.
- Experience with cloud networking across AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, including networking configurations, security settings, and integration with on-premises environments.
- Experience with network security practices including network hardening, monitoring, and threat assessment.
- Experience working in a Managed Service Provider (MSP) environment with exposure to ITIL-based service delivery models.
- Experience delivering customer-facing IT network projects.
- A degree or equivalent experience in computer science or a related field.
