About Paxos

Today’s financial infrastructure is archaic, expensive, inefficient and risky — supporting a system that leaves out more people than it lets in. So we’re rebuilding it.

We’re on a mission to open the world’s financial system to everyone by enabling the instant movement of any asset, any time, in a trustworthy way. For over a decade, we’ve built blockchain infrastructure that tokenizes, custodies, trades and settles assets for the world’s leading financial institutions, like PayPal, Venmo, Mastercard and Interactive Brokers.

About the team

Our Legal team serves as a strategic partner in Paxos' mission to modernize financial infrastructure. The Product Counseling function is the critical bridge between our innovative product development and regulatory compliance requirements. Working closely with Product, Engineering, Risk and Compliance teams, we ensure our cutting-edge blockchain solutions meet the highest standards of legal and regulatory compliance while enabling business growth.

About the role

As Senior Product Counsel, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of digital assets and financial technology. You'll partner with product and engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle - from ideation through launch and beyond - providing strategic legal guidance that enables innovation while ensuring regulatory compliance. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of traditional finance, blockchain technology, and regulatory frameworks.

What you'll do

  • Partner with product teams to develop and launch innovative blockchain and financial products, providing strategic legal guidance from conception through implementation
  • Analyze complex regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions and translate them into practical product and engineering requirements
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration between Legal, Product, Engineering, and Compliance teams to ensure alignment on product development and risk management
  • Draft and review product documentation, terms of service, and regulatory submissions for new products and features
  • Develop and maintain product legal frameworks and playbooks that enable scalable product development
  • Monitor regulatory developments in crypto, fintech, and financial services to identify impacts on product strategy and requirements
  • Present legal and regulatory considerations to internal stakeholders and external partners in clear, business-oriented terms
  • Engage with regulators and external counsel on novel legal issues related to digital assets and financial technology
  • Contribute to the development of industry standards and best practices for blockchain and digital asset products

About you

  • JD degree and membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar
  • 7+ years of legal experience, with significant focus on financial services, fintech, or digital assets
  • Deep understanding of U.S. financial services regulations, including money transmission, securities, commodities, and banking laws
  • Experience working directly with product and engineering teams in a technology company
  • Strong background in regulatory compliance for financial products and services
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to drive complex initiatives across multiple stakeholders
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyers
  • Proven track record of finding creative solutions to novel legal and regulatory challenges
  • Demonstrated experience using AI tools to improve how you work
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to make risk-based decisions in evolving regulatory environments

You might also have

  • Experience with blockchain technology and digital asset regulations
  • Background in money services business or trust company regulation
  • International financial services regulatory experience
  • In-house counsel experience at a fintech or crypto company
  • Experience working with federal and state financial regulators

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
