Job Description

Job Summary
The Washington Post is seeking a Senior Product Designer to join its Growth Product Design team and execute the product design and strategy for our subscription product ecosystem. This role will play a key part in shaping both the user experience and the strategic narrative across our subscription product suite, ensuring that our experiences work seamlessly together.

As the Senior Product Designer on the Growth team, you’ll work through all phases of the product design process. Your focus will be on creating the UX, design strategy, visual design, content design and UX writing for products within the Washington Post subscriptions ecosystem – ensuring that our offerings and experiences meet the needs of our customers and stay ahead of industry trends. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, brand, editorial and marketing, to deliver innovative solutions that enhance customer experiences, foster business growth, and maximize product value. This role reports to the Product Design Lead, Growth.

Responsibilities

  • End-to-end product design: Work through the design process to iteratively design and deliver cohesive and scalable design solutions, from project kick-off through launch and post-launch improvements.

  • Independently conceptualize design solutions: Generate creative and scalable design concepts that align with user needs and business goals, translating ideas into tangible design solutions.

  • Create sophisticated prototypes: Build interactive prototypes to visualize and test the functionality and user experience, iterating designs based on qualitative and quantitative feedback.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, brand designers, marketing, and editorial stakeholders, to ensure design cohesion and successful implementation.

  • Conduct and integrate research: Analyze user data, conduct user interviews and usability testing, evaluate behaviors, and integrate insights into product designs that are intuitive, user-friendly, and address real-world challenges.

  • Refine & deliver design specs iteratively: Continuously refine and improve design solutions based on usability testing, user feedback, and changing project requirements. Provide engineering teams with detailed design specs and support implementation through design QA and testing.

  • Craft content design and UX writing: Develop content flows, microcopy, and subscription-related content that enhances user understanding, guides key workflows, and strengthens the product voice and clarity.

  • Stay informed on industry trends: Monitor competitors and broader design trends to ensure our subscription experiences deliver a modern, innovative user experience.

  • Advocate for design quality: Serve as a champion of user-centered design across teams to foster design thinking and deliver best-in-class solutions.
     

Qualifications

  • A portfolio that shows a strong body of product design work that highlights practical skills, creative problem-solving, UX writing expertise, and the ability to address user and business needs effectively

  • 4+ years of product design experience, preferably in growth design, B2C digital subscriptions or consumer-facing platforms

  • Proficiency in design software and tools such as Figma, ProtoPie, HTML/CSS, Adobe Creative Suite and other relevant design and prototyping tools

  • Familiarity with front-end development concepts and agile development to collaborate effectively with engineers

  • Expertise in user-centered design processes, including user research, persona creation, usability testing, and analytics

  • Experience using quantitative and qualitative data to inform design decisions, identify user needs, and measure success

  • Strong written, content design, verbal, and visual communication, as well as presentation skills

  • Proven ability to independently manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
     

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience designing B2C digital subscription products or personalized consumer platforms.

  • Background in content strategy & UX writing or designing for creating a strategic narrative across a product ecosystem

  • Passion for The Washington Post or the journalism industry at large.

The Washington Post’s policy for employees is five days per week in the office, with exceptions for newsgathering and general business travel.

Benefits may vary based on the job, full-time or part-time schedule, location, and collectively bargained status.

The salary range for this position is:

108,700.00 - 181,100.00 USD Annual

The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
