At Gemini, our mission is to unlock the next era of financial, creative, and personal freedom.

The Department: Design

In Design, we think comfort zones are the enemy of creativity. Our team blends beauty with tech to create world-class products. We are inspired by design, fueled by data, and obsessed with the user, both retail and institutional.

The Role: Principal Product Designer

As a Principal Product Designer, you will play a critical role in defining and driving the design strategy for our products. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver user-centric, innovative, and cohesive experiences across our platform. In this leadership role, you will shape our product vision, set the bar for design quality, and mentor team members to foster a culture of design excellence.

Our team is a close-knit group of exceptionally talented and driven individuals who collaborate to tackle some of the most challenging problems in this field. You'll closely partner with Product Management, Engineering, and fellow Product Designers to create a truly great user experience on the Gemini platform.

Responsibilities:

  • Product Strategy: Define and execute the design strategy for key product initiatives, ensuring alignment with business goals and user needs.
  • Visionary Design: Develop and articulate a compelling product vision to guide the team and stakeholders.
  • Holistic Design: Craft seamless, end-to-end user experiences by integrating information architecture, interaction design, and visual design.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor design team members, providing feedback to enhance the overall design quality.
  • Collaboration: Partner with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure the delivery of intuitive and impactful solutions.
  • Design System Stewardship: Champion the effective use and evolution of the design system to support scalable product development.
  • Quality Advocacy: Drive the quality of design outputs across the team, ensuring consistency, usability, and visual excellence.
  • User Research: Advocate for a user-centered design approach through research, usability testing, and iterative development.
  • Thought Leadership: Represent the design team in strategic discussions, acting as a voice of design within the organization.
  • Innovation: Stay informed on design trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to drive forward-thinking solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in product design, with a proven track record of leading complex projects and mentoring teams.
  • Design Expertise: Exceptional skills in user experience, interaction design, visual design, and information architecture, with a portfolio showcasing high-quality work.
  • Strategic Vision: Ability to define and articulate a comprehensive design strategy that aligns with business and user goals.
  • Technical Proficiency: Mastery of design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or similar, with a deep understanding of responsive design and accessibility standards.
  • Collaboration: Strong communication skills and experience working effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment with a keen eye for detail but also comfortable with high level strategic thinking.
  • Leadership: A natural mentor with a collaborative mindset and a passion for elevating design practices across a team.

It Pays to Work Here

The compensation & benefits package for this role includes:

  • Competitive starting salary
  • A discretionary annual bonus
  • Long-term incentive in the form of a new hire equity grant
  • Comprehensive health plans
  • 401K with company matching
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Flexible time off

Salary Range: The base salary range for this role is between $182,000 - $254,000 in the State of New York, the State of California and the State of Washington. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package. When determining a candidate’s compensation, we consider a number of factors including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.

In the United States, we have a flexible hybrid work policy for employees who live within 30 miles of our office headquartered in New York City and our office in Seattle. Employees within the New York and Seattle metropolitan areas are expected to work from the designated office twice a week, unless there is a job-specific requirement to be in the office every workday. Employees outside of these areas are considered part of our remote-first workforce. We believe our hybrid approach for those near our NYC and Seattle offices increases productivity through more in-person collaboration where possible.

At Gemini, we strive to build diverse teams that reflect the people we want to empower through our products, and we are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity, or Veteran status. Equal Opportunity is the Law, and Gemini is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace. If you have a specific need that requires accommodation, please let a member of the People Team know.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
