You’ll take ownership of the design process from start to finish, solving complex challenges with clear, scalable solutions. Through cross-functional collaboration with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders, you’ll ensure we’re building with our users at the center. Your work will directly support the mission of thousands of social good organizations.

Team Overview

You’ll be joining Bonterra’s Product Design team—a collaborative, mission-driven group that values thoughtful experiences, continuous learning, and equity-centered design. We work closely with product, engineering, and customer success teams to co-create solutions that improve outcomes for our users. We foster a culture of inclusion, trust, and feedback, and we’re deeply committed to accessibility and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end design process for a key product area—from research and concept development to high-fidelity UI and handoff—ensuring a seamless and cohesive user experience.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to inform product strategy and deliver user-centered design solutions that meet business and technical goals.

  • Translate complex problems and workflows into clear, accessible, and visually compelling designs using tools like Figma.

  • Conduct user research and usability testing to uncover insights and validate design decisions, iterating on solutions based on feedback and data.

  • Drive and evolve the product’s visual and interaction design in alignment with Bonterra’s design system and brand standards.

  • Navigate complex challenges and translate them into actionable design tasks, balancing near-term needs with long-term vision.

  • Facilitate design workshops and collaborative sessions to foster shared understanding and generate innovative ideas.

  • Ensure accessibility and inclusivity in all design work, adhering to industry standards to serve users of all abilities.

  • Contribute to the design team’s culture by mentoring less experienced designers or peers developing their skills.

  • Stay current on UX and industry trends, bringing fresh ideas and continuous improvement to your design practice.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of proven experience leading the design of complex digital products in a SaaS environment

  • A strong portfolio showcasing UX and UI work across responsive web or native applications, with clear articulation of your design thinking and process

  • Experience taking a product from 0 to 1, navigating ambiguity and shaping early-stage concepts into functional, validated solutions

  • Advanced proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools, especially Figma

  • Strong collaboration skills and experience partnering with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to shape and deliver product strategy

  • Deep knowledge of user-centered design methodologies, including user research, journey mapping, and usability testing

  • Experience designing within or contributing to a scalable design system

  • Understanding of front-end development principles (HTML/CSS/JS) and the ability to effectively communicate with engineering teams

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly explain design decisions to a wide range of audiences

  • A strong commitment to accessibility and inclusive design practices

  • Openness to exploring and adopting emerging tools—such as ChatGPT, V0, and Lovable—to enhance workflows, accelerate iteration, and strengthen collaboration across product and engineering team.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working in the social good, civic tech, or nonprofit space.

  • Familiarity with enterprise software or data-heavy product environments.
