About Maven

Maven is reinventing professional education. We believe professionals should learn every year from real-world experts. Today, we have 50K+ student alumni and 500K+ registered users. Our marketplace features over 500 expert-led, cohort-based courses focused on the critical skills needed to succeed.

We’re a founder-led company—our CEO, Gagan co-founded Udemy, and our CTO, Shreyans, was the first engineer at Venmo. Maven is scaling quickly: our business grew over 100% last year. We’ve raised $25M from Andreessen Horowitz, First Round, and top industry angels. We’re a tight-knit team of 18, on track to profitability while growing over 2x YoY. Check out this case study by our Head of Product, Rishin, on how we achieved this growth through multi-year bets.

Role overview

We’re looking for a talented Senior Product Designer to join our growing team.

It’s an exciting time to come aboard—we’re officially at the growth stage of the company. You’ll have a ton of ownership and collaborate closely with a high-functioning, mission-driven team. You’ll work with seasoned folks who have helped scale companies like Udemy, Airbnb, and Teachable.

This role reports to Yuan (Head of Design) and works alongside Linda. As the third designer at Maven, you’ll lead the design for high-impact product areas (e.g. Maven Lightning Lessons, course discovery), define end-to-end experiences, drive 0→1 initiatives, and shape our roadmap and culture.

What you’ll do

  • Lead the design direction for major product surface areas; own the end-to-end from ideation through launch.
  • Explore designs, create prototypes, conduct research interviews, and leverage data & insights to deliver meaningful experiences for our customers.
  • Craft visually compelling designs for key launches and campaigns.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to translate company strategy into actionable roadmap initiatives, and identify the most impactful problems to solve.
  • Collaborate with the rest of the design team to evolve our long-term product vision, design systems, brand guidelines, and internal collaboration process.
  • Work closely with marketing, growth, and engineering to deliver high-quality, user-centric solutions.
  • Set a high bar for craft and quality, and help the team ship excellent work with minimal impact on velocity.

You should apply if you have

  • 5+ years of work experience designing UX and UI for digital products
  • Strong visual design and prototyping skills
  • Excellent storytelling and communication skills to drive alignment and influence decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to design simple solutions to complex problems
  • Experience with conducting user research and usability testing
  • Experience maintaining and contributing to design systems
  • Knowledge of HTML/CSS, and experience working with engineering teams to ensure accurate implementation of designs

Team & Culture

Design is a strategic partner at Maven. We meet regularly with co-founders and cross-functional leads to shape the roadmap and conduct regular research sessions to deeply understand our customers. We move fast, iterate quickly, and value people who take ownership and bring fresh perspectives..

Our product team is small (2 PMs, 2 Designers, 6 Engineers), but mighty. We're fully remote, so we invest heavily in creating shared context through an open culture. We meet twice a year at company-wide off-sites and twice a year at hackathons. Everyone has high agency, deeply cares about what we’re building, and effortlessly wears the student and instructor hats.

We value candidates who:

  • Take pride in doing great work, and in helping others do the same
  • Think and act like an owner
  • Communicate openly and provide constructive feedback to team members
  • Are willing to throw away ideas, and are optimistic enough to keep hunting for new ones
  • Think 80/20 and focus on getting the right stuff done

Compensation
$150k-$200k in salary, with strong benefits, and equity.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
