CRIO (Clinical Research IO) is a health tech company helping pharma, biotech, research sites, and academic research centers streamline regulatory workflows with one system and a single source of clinical data capture. Our modules allow sites to capture data electronically in real-time, providing data managers and monitors with enhanced transparency, and enabling remote monitoring by sponsors and CROs.

CRIO’s eSource and CTMS system is a leading, modern, enterprise platform built for clinical research sites. Since CRIO’s launch in 2015, CRIO has established the leading brand position in eSource and has won close to 50% of the emerging class of enterprise-grade site networks, many of whom are backed by institutional investors such as VC, PE and corporations. CRIO has achieved the attached metrics, all with little to no serious outbound sales or marketing.

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Senior Product Designer to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will own the design of intuitive and impactful user experiences central to our mission of modernizing clinical research. As a Senior Product Designer at CRIO, you will drive design strategy, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and shape the future of our products. You will take initiative, work with a high degree of autonomy, and see your work through from early discovery to final implementation — ensuring our products meet user needs and contribute to the success of clinical trials.

Please note: Candidates must present a portfolio of previous product design work to be considered for this role.

Responsibilities

  • User Research & Discovery: Lead user research initiatives, including interviews, usability testing, and analysis, translating findings into actionable design decisions
  • End-to-End Design Execution: Lead the design process from initial concept through final delivery, producing wireframes, user flows, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups that clearly communicate intent to both stakeholders and engineers.
  • Design System Stewardship: Apply and actively contribute to the design system, ensuring visual and interaction consistency, scalability, and reusability across the product portfolio.
  • Accessibility & Inclusive Design: Design for accessibility and champion inclusive design practices throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Present and articulate design decisions clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineers to ensure design intent is faithfully implemented, participating in sprint ceremonies as needed. Iterate on designs as needed, and review implemented designs before release.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of Product Design experience developing user experiences and interface designs
  • Experience owning end-to-end design work across one or more product areas — from discovery and research through to detailed interaction design and implementation
  • Expertise in UX Design: wireframing, user journeys, interaction design, and prototyping
  • Expertise in UI Design: branding, visual design, layouts, and high-fidelity mockups
  • Hands-on experience creating, contributing to, and managing a design system
  • Excellent communication skills for articulating complex design decisions and rationale to stakeholders at all levels
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently and lead design projects in a team environment
  • Ability to drive strategic design discussions and influence product direction
  • Collaborative, flexible, and positive attitude towards teamwork
  • Experience leading user research initiatives to uncover user needs and inform design decisions
  • Solid knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards and how to apply and champion them in practice
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to effectively communicate with developers
  • Proficiency in Figma

Nice to Have

  • Experience with clinical data workflows, eClinical vendor systems, or regulated software environments
  • Background designing complex, data-heavy enterprise SaaS products
  • Familiarity using AI tools as part of your design workflow — for ideation, prototyping, or research synthesis
  • Familiarity with 21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA, CDISC ODM, HL7 FHIR, and GDPR compliance requirements

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
