Hi! We're Forerunner.

We believe that adaptation is a necessity, not a luxury, and communities deserve access to powerful software that helps them plan for the future. The challenge of climate change is complex – it implicates how governments plan, manage capital, and communicate to stakeholders. Forerunner helps government agencies do these things better by empowering them to access, understand, and mobilize local-level flood risk data at scale. Our software is built to be easy-to-use, so that the planners and floodplain managers preparing for our future can focus on the important stuff.

About the role

As a Senior Product Manager at Forerunner, you'll drive the development and adoption of resilience software for governments of all sizes. You'll own the product roadmap for one of our core platform teams, focusing on building the underlying capabilities that power our multi-product platform. You'll translate customer needs into cohesive product strategies that deliver measurable impact for communities. You'll work at the intersection of government requirements and innovative technology to help deliver accessible, actionable tools that create more resilient communities.

What you'll doProduct Strategy & Vision
  • Define and execute a product strategy that balances the complex needs of governments with usability and impact
  • Develop a clear roadmap for features that address both immediate customer needs and long-term platform goals
  • Identify opportunities to turn disparate customer requests into cohesive features that solve broader challenges
  • Lead the development of key platform capabilities like document automation, workflow automation, and data management tools
Product Development
  • Conduct in-depth customer discovery through interviews and data analysis to identify government needs and market opportunities
  • Translate user requirements into clear product direction, empowering our Engineering and Design teams to build effective solutions
  • Rapidly test and validate product hypotheses through small, incremental releases, with a focus on delivering value quickly and iterating based on feedback
  • Equip Sales and Customer Success teams with the tools and knowledge to effectively communicate product value to government clients
Cross-functional Leadership
  • Partner with Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success to develop effective go-to-market strategies
  • Work closely with engineers to understand technical constraints and opportunities
  • Collaborate effectively with designers to ensure a cohesive user experience across the platform
  • Lead product webinars, create demo videos, and develop documentation for internal and external audiences
  • Navigate the nuances of working with government stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, and become a subject matter expert across a variety of government workflows
What we're looking for
  • 5-8 years of proven product management experience with a track record of delivering impactful products
  • Experience building B2B software products, preferably in an iterative, customer-centric environment
  • Strong product sense and the ability to define and adapt processes to meet evolving customer and business needs
  • Exceptional product and design taste, and the ability to synthesize diverse customer inputs into cohesive product solutions
  • Experience working in fast-paced startup environments
  • Demonstrated excellence in cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management
  • Technical understanding sufficient to effectively partner with engineers and make informed product decisions
  • Ability to break down complex problems into smaller, testable hypotheses
  • Clear communication skills and an ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Willingness to deeply learn and engage with the domain (floodplain management, emergency response, etc.)
Strong candidates may also have
  • Experience building products for governments and within regulated environments (PII, SOC2, ADA, FEDRAMP)
  • Understanding of geospatial data and GIS systems
  • Background in enterprise software development, deployment, and adoption
  • Experience with data-heavy applications or platforms
  • Programming experience or technical background
  • Experience leading product initiatives from 0 to 1

We're a remote-first organization, with offices in NYC, San Francisco, and Portland, ME. Many members of our team work remotely, but we have small offices in San Francisco, NYC, and Portland, ME. We offer schedule flexibility for all of our employees and ask for accountability in return.

We want you to be happy and healthy. Forerunner offers competitive compensation, health/vision/dental coverage, and commuter benefits. We also have a quarterly wellness reimbursement so that you can have flexibility in defining what "health" means to you.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
