About Customer.io

Over 8,000 companies — from scrappy startups to global brands — use our platform to send billions of emails, push notifications, in-app messages, and SMS every day. Customer.io powers automated communication that people actually want to receive. We help teams send smarter, more relevant messages using real-time behavioral data.

About the role

Hi, my name is Matt Pahnke, VP Product Marketing at Customer.io, and I’m looking for a Senior Product Marketing Manager to help shape how the world understands and adopts our platform.

Our PMM team of six is embedded across EPD squads, working closely with product, engineering, sales enablement, and demand gen to bring features to market and drive meaningful adoption. We haven’t hired a PMM in over two years — strong retention is a great sign — but we’re growing and this is a real opportunity to make your mark. You’ll build deep product expertise, own go-to-market strategy for key areas, and become a genuine voice inside our product development process — not just a seat at the table.

What we value
  • Impact over activity — you care about adoption and activation, not page views and collateral counts
  • Domain depth — you go deep on the product and the market; you become the expert
  • Earned influence — you push back with data and conviction; you don’t wait for permission
  • Cross-functional trust — you build real relationships across EPD, sales, and demand gen, not just handoffs
  • Clarity — you make complex things simple, in writing, in conversation, and in the room
What you'll do
  • Own go-to-market strategy for your product areas — positioning, messaging, launch execution, and measurement
  • Partner embedded with EPD squads to shape feature narratives and ensure launches land with real market impact
  • Drive product adoption and activation — connect PMM work directly to the metrics that matter to the business
  • Own competitive intelligence for your domain — synthesize insights and arm the team with sharp, actionable positioning
  • Collaborate with demand gen, growth, and sales enablement to connect the product story to pipeline and revenue
  • Build deep customer and product expertise, becoming the go-to subject matter expert on your areas of ownership
What we're looking for
  • 5+ years of product marketing experience in B2B SaaS
  • Experience in marketing technology, messaging, or an adjacent domain — or a proven track record of quickly developing deep domain expertise in a new space
  • Strong storytelling skills across written, verbal, and visual formats — you make complex products feel clear and compelling
  • Cross-functional collaboration experience — you’ve worked embedded with product teams, not just handed off deliverables
  • A track record of tying PMM work to business outcomes: adoption, activation, retention
  • Experience at early-to-mid stage high-growth companies; you’re comfortable with ambiguity and moving fast
  • A habit of working with AI tools as part of your everyday workflow
Compensation & Benefits

We believe in transparency. Starting salary for this role is $135k–$176k USD (or equivalent in local currency) depending on experience and subject to market rate adjustment.

We know our people are what make us great, and we’re committed to taking great care of them. Our inclusive benefits package supports your well-being and growth, including 100% coverage of medical, dental, vision, mental health, and supplemental insurance premiums for you and your family. We also offer 16 weeks paid parental leave, unlimited PTO, stipends for remote work and wellness, a professional development budget, and more.

  2. 30-minute zoom call with Hiring Manager
  3. 30-minute zoom call with Cross Functional Partner

All final candidates will be asked to complete a background check and employment verifications as part of our pre-employment process.

Customer.io recognizes the stifling impact of systemic injustice on diverse communities. We commit to using our influence to increase inclusion and equity within the tech industry. We strive to build an inclusive team culture, implement bias-free hiring practices, and develop community partnerships to expand our global impact.

Zoom is the only video conference platform that we use, virtual interviews will be conducted using the video capability (i.e., not via the chat), and offers will be extended in writing on official Customer.io letterhead. Please be vigilant in all of your job search activity, and if you have any questions please contact [email protected].

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
