Job Description

Would you like to join an incredibly talented group of people, doing very challenging work, with the prime directive of “Keeping Our Heroes Connected”?

THE OPPORTUNITY

Silvus is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior R&D Systems Engineer to join our Research & Development team. In this pivotal role, you will report to the Senior Director of R&D Electronic Warfare and lead the definition and development of next-generation Networked Electronic Warfare (EW) systems.

The successful individual in this role will bridge the gap between complex RF hardware, advanced signal processing software, and distributed networking architectures. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team to architect systems that not only detect and counter threats but coordinate these effects across a mesh of intelligent nodes. This position requires a rigorous systems engineering approach to capture designs, manage requirements, and ensure mission success in contested RF environments.

This position is eligible for 100% remote work depending on location.

The following is a list of at least some of the current essential job functions of the position. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities at any time at its discretion.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • System Architecture & Design: Lead the architectural definition of networked EW systems, decomposing high-level mission requirements into detailed hardware, software, and firmware specifications.
  • Requirements Management: Utilize modern requirements management tools to capture, trace, and maintain system requirements throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring full coverage from customer needs to validation testing.
  • Technical Documentation: Author and maintain critical engineering artifacts, including System Design Descriptions (SDD), Interface Control Documents (ICDs), CONOPS, and Test Plans.
  • Integration & Test Leadership: Define and oversee system integration strategies; lead hands-on integration events involving RF hardware, embedded software, and network emulators in both lab and field environments.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the technical bridge between RF, FPGA, Software, and Mechanical engineering teams, facilitating trade studies to balance performance, SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power), and cost.
  • Performance Analysis: Develop simulation models (MATLAB/Python) to predict system performance under realistic conditions and validate these models against field test data.
  • Travel Requirements - Occasional travel for team meetings, test events and client demonstrations at Los Angeles, CA headquarters or other locations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in systems engineering for complex hardware/software systems, with a strong understanding of the V-model, requirements decomposition, and lifecycle management.
  • Proven experience in one or more following domains: Electronic Warfare, Signals Intelligence (SIGINT), Tactical Radios / Wireless Communications (MANET, MIMO, Mesh), or Radar Systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical data to non-technical stakeholders and government customers.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen due to clients under U.S. government contracts.
  • All employment is contingent upon the successful clearance of a background check and drug test.
  • Security Clearance: Active U.S. Government SECRET clearance or the ability to obtain one within 15 months of hire

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • MS degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • Hands-on experience with modern systems engineering and requirements tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler (MagicDraw), IBM DOORS / DOORS Next Gen, Jama Connect, or Sparx Enterprise Architect.
  • Experience applying Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies to model system behaviors, states, and data flows using tools such as SysML (System Modeling Language).
  • Understanding of distributed EW concepts, such as TDOA/FDOA geolocation, coherent distributed jamming, or collaborative sensing across a MANET.
  • RF & Networking fluency; knowledge of RF propagation, link budgets, and modulation techniques.
  • Familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, multicast) and tactical data links (e.g., Link 16, ATAK integrations).
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or Simulink for data analysis and algorithm modeling.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Office environment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to do the following:
  • Lift equipment up to 20 lbs. for the set-up of demonstrations and testing.
  • Walking/Moving in the labs

COMPENSATION: $140,000 - $200,000 / annually USD

The pay range is NOT a guarantee. It is based on market research and peer data and will vary depending on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

NOTE - As a US Federal Contractor, Silvus Technologies requires that ALL candidates being considered for employment for any position (regardless of level) MUST be a U.S. Person (permanent resident or citizen).  Stricter U.S. Citizen ONLY requirements (needed for some Engineering or R&D roles) will be included in the Required Qualifications section of the posted position. This does NOT apply to International positions; only job postings for positions located in the US.

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
