Application Deadline: 4/30/2026

The Opportunity

DAT is seeking an entrepreneurial risk leader to build and scale the credit risk program at the center of our evolving payments ecosystem. This role sits at the intersection of risk management, systems development, and portfolio management — requiring someone who can design programs from the ground up and drive execution across a fast-moving organization.

You’ll own credit risk modeling, underwriting processes, and decisions for marketplace customers while building the infrastructure, analytics, and processes needed to scale those capabilities over time. Following DAT’s acquisition of Convoy in 2025, this role will also take on direct responsibility for integrating Convoy’s credit product into DAT’s broader risk framework — a meaningful near-term priority that will shape how the combined program operates going forward.

The right candidate is a systems thinker who leads with data, communicates with conviction to senior leadership, and sees manual processes as opportunities for scalable, automated solutions. Credit expertise is a meaningful advantage, though we’re equally interested in candidates who bring strong risk management fundamentals and a track record of building programs in high-growth environments.

What You’ll Do

Program & Infrastructure Development

  • Design and implement a scalable credit risk framework from the ground up, including policies, risk thresholds, escalation frameworks, and enforcement workflows. Partner with product and engineering teams to move credit operations toward automated, real-time controls. Define product requirements for credit infrastructure within our payments ecosystem and lead evaluation of data tools and integrations that enhance risk visibility. Build with scale in mind — every process and system should be designed to handle multiples of current volume without proportional increases in headcount or manual effort.

Credit Product Integration

  • Lead the integration of new credit products into DAT’s risk management framework. Assess existing credit policies, underwriting criteria, and portfolio composition, identifying opportunities to harmonize approaches across the enterprise. Partner with cross-functional stakeholders from multiple organizations to navigate integration complexity, resolve policy conflicts, and establish a unified credit program that captures the strengths of DAT’s platforms.

Credit Underwriting & Portfolio Management

  • Develop underwriting criteria and credit policies for marketplace customers, incorporating financial analysis alongside industry-specific data sources. Own credit limit decisions, ongoing monitoring, and escalation for complex or high-exposure accounts. Build early warning systems that identify deteriorating credit quality before losses occur, leveraging payment trend analysis, balance growth patterns, and default probability indicators.

Risk Analytics & Modeling

  • Lead the design of KPIs, reporting frameworks, and dashboards that give leadership real-time visibility into portfolio health and emerging exposure trends. Build and maintain forecasting models that project payment behavior and expected loss under a range of scenarios. Conduct regular portfolio reviews and translate analytical findings into clear, actionable recommendations. Bring rigor and creativity to data — identifying patterns and opportunities that aren’t obvious from surface-level reporting.

Senior Leadership Communication & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as the voice of credit risk to senior leadership, presenting portfolio performance, policy recommendations, and risk assessments on sensitive or high-stakes topics with clarity and confidence. Navigate a cross-functional environment where sales, product, finance, and operations often have competing priorities. Build consensus around credit policies that balance growth enablement with prudent risk limits. Manage customer relationships during difficult credit conversations, enforcing policy while preserving the commercial relationship wherever possible.

What makes this role unique

DAT occupies a unique position in the freight ecosystem — sitting between shippers, brokers, and carriers at a moment when payments infrastructure, risk management, and marketplace dynamics are converging in new ways. The development of new automation tools and emerging marketplace models adds both complexity and opportunity, and this role is central to realizing the full potential of the DAT platform. You’ll have the mandate to build the systems and programs that define how credit risk operates at scale across the entire DAT ecosystem.

The Skills and Experience You’ll Bring

  • 5–8 years of experience in risk management: credit risk, operational risk, or a related discipline at a fast-moving, growth-oriented technology or fintech company.
  • Demonstrated ability to build programs and systems with limited existing infrastructure.
  • A strong data analytics mindset: comfortable working directly with complex datasets, designing models, and deriving insights that drive decisions, without necessarily having a deep technical programming background.
  • Proven track record of presenting complex risk topics to senior leadership and influencing decisions at the executive level.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to make sound decisions and move forward without complete information.
  • Familiarity with BI platforms, reporting tools, and dashboard development.
  • Experience with trade credit reporting and commercial risk scoring tools is a plus, as is experience in freight, logistics, or marketplace businesses.

  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
