Senior Software Engineer - Conversational Search

Our Conversational Search team is building Redfin's next generation artificial intelligence powered home search experience, redefining how millions of users discover homes. This is one of Redfin's most ambitious and visible product initiatives for 2026, combining conversational UI, LLM powered reasoning, and high performance backend systems to create a fast, intuitive and deeply helpful way to search for homes. Because this new search paradigm attracts significant engagement and traffic, performance, reliability, and thoughtful UX design are critical. About the Role

• You will develop responsive, resilient, scalable, and high-quality conversational experiences using React, Java, AWS, Sierra AI and various other tools/libraries.
• You will balance the trade-offs between complex infrastructure investments and quick, pragmatic solutions to meet specific business needs.
• You will collaborate with other engineering and product stakeholders to define, design, and lead the development of significant multi-person projects.
• You will mentor and guide other engineers, providing technical leadership and advocating for best practices.
• You will stay up to date with the rapidly evolving AI ecosystem and help evaluate new tools, models, and frameworks.

About You

• 5+ years of professional full-stack software development experience, specifically in React and Java.
• You're excited about LLMs, agent development, conversational UX, and emerging AI technologies.
• You have experience with modern frontend technologies (React, TypeScript).
• Proven track record of designing, building, and maintaining scalable, high-performance web applications.
• You love elegant interfaces that can tell stories and inspire trust.
• You are a teacher and a mentor: you have the leadership skills (and the patience) to improve the developers around you.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment, handle ambiguity, and empathize with customers.
• You are eager to help us in our mission to create a fundamentally better real estate experience for our customers.

On-Call Expectations
This role may include participation in an on-call rotation to support production systems and ensure service reliability. On-call responsibilities may include coverage during nights and weekends. If applicable, frequency and scheduling will be determined by team needs and communicated accordingly.

The compensation information below is provided in compliance with all applicable job posting disclosure requirements. The compensation for this position is $166,900.00-$203,900.00. The position may also be eligible for an annual bonus, incentives, and other employment-related benefits including, but not limited to, medical, dental, and vision benefits, 401K retirement plan, and paid-time off.
