Kin is redesigning insurance to be smarter, faster, and centered on the customer. We use intelligent pricing, offer seamless bundling, and make every step (from purchasing, servicing to claims) simple and friction-free, especially in the places traditional insurers often ignore.

We empower people to protect what matters most, starting with their homes and expanding to all they value, in a world where climate risks, rising costs, and outdated systems leave too many behind. Our approach has fostered amazing growth, attracted marquee investors, and earned us accolades, including being named to:

  • Built In Chicago's Best Places to Work, Midsize Companies (2021-2025).

  • Forbes' America's Best Startup Employers (2021- 2024, Ranked #37 in 2024).

  • Inc. 5000 Fastest-Growing Private Companies.

  • Forbes’ Fintech 50.

Simply put, our people are what make us great – we need forward-thinking, inspired game-changers like you to join us in our mission.

So, what’s the role?

As a Senior Software Engineer for our CRM Integration (HubSpot) at Kin, you’ll lead the design, development, and optimization of our HubSpot integrations and related systems. You’ll use your deep understanding of HubSpot’s data model, APIs, and best practices to build robust solutions that unify our sales, customer service, and marketing operations.   You’ll be integrating Hubspot with our core product, built on a Ruby on Rails environment with Typescript front-end and PostgreSQL database.  In your role, you will have the opportunity to work on more complex engineering problems while collaborating with peers in Dev, Product, QA, and other cross-functional teams in an agile environment. As a senior team member, you'll have the opportunity to mentor more junior engineers, and on occasion lead small projects.

A day in the life could include:

  • Driving HubSpot integrations: Take a leading role in architecting, designing, and optimizing integrations between HubSpot and our internal systems (Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, internal APIs, etc.).

  • Setting standards: Establish best practices for scaling our HubSpot configuration and integration, while also guiding the engineering team in code quality, maintainability, and efficient workflows.

  • Leading collaboration: Conduct pair programming sessions and mentor team members on integrating HubSpot solutions with other Kin systems.

  • Owning technical design: Provide architecture oversight for HubSpot-related projects, ensuring they align with business goals and follow industry-leading practices.

  • Building scalable, API-first systems: Extend and maintain robust back-end services, with a particular emphasis on data flows between HubSpot and Kin’s platform.

  • Participating in cross-functional collaboration: Work with our Insurance Product and Actuarial teams to ensure data integrity and effective usage of HubSpot insights and reporting.

  • Providing subject matter expertise: Be the go-to resource for all things HubSpot, offering insight on features, upgrades, and advanced customization.

I’ve got the skills… but do I have the necessary ones?

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience

  • Proven HubSpot expertise with hands-on experience integrating HubSpot into complex back-end systems, including deep knowledge of HubSpot’s data model, APIs, and best practices; experience supporting a B2C company model is preferred

  • Experience coding with Ruby on Rails (or a comparable back-end framework), with willingness to blend these skills into HubSpot-centric projects

  • Strong understanding of SQL and RDBMS, with exposure to NoSQL a plus

  • Experience designing and implementing scalable, API-first systems

  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures

  • Ability to articulate the value of technical investments and operate with minimal guidance

  • Experience mentoring engineers and leading small projects.

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment – we’re self-motivated and determined to change the industry

  • A fast learner, ready to bring prior knowledge to this role while continuing to develop along the way

Oh, and don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

  • Medical, Dental, Vision, Disability and Life Insurance

  • Flexible PTO policy

  • Remote work

  • Generous equity package

  • 401K with company match

  • Parental leave

  • Continuing education and professional development

  • The excitement of joining a high-growth Insurtech company and seeing your work make an impact

  • Location in Central or Eastern US time zones (CDT & EDT) strongly preferred

  • At this time, we are unable to sponsor employment visas

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
