As a Senior Solutions Architect, you will guide enterprises in adopting GraphQL, developing solutions, and collaborating with product teams to enhance customer satisfaction and product evolution.
Apollo is seeking a Senior Solution Architect to help drive the future of GraphQL at scale. You'll lead enterprise teams through complex distributed system challenges, designing unified graph strategies that transform how they build and connect APIs. Working directly with engineering teams at major companies, you'll solve cutting-edge problems with Apollo Federation and GraphOS while influencing the evolution of our platform based on real-world implementation insights.
What you'll do
- Lead engineering efforts executed with Apollo’s enterprise customers to expand GraphQL efforts, accelerating federated graph adoption and realizing Apollo GraphOS value.
- Work with senior engineering leaders to modernize the API Orchestration strategy, architecture & governance for their organizations.
- Design and implement GraphQL-based solutions, guiding teams through all stages of their GraphQL journey, from initial implementation to production rollout and continued adoption.
- Consider and advise on how solutions function across varied customer architectures and environments, ensuring effectiveness for diverse technical landscapes.
- Perform hands-on technical implementation and enablement to ensure successful adoption and customer satisfaction.
- Investigate, Scope and Deploy bespoke environment requirements using and building upon K8s Deployment examples, Router co-processors, Rhai scripts, Apollo Connectors configuration, Rover CLI, Apollo Platform APIs, OpenTelemetry integrations, and more.
- Work with Product, Engineering, and Support teams to address technical needs, resolve challenges, and advocate for customer-driven product improvements.
- Support Sales & Marketing as a technical expert, contributing to pre-sales activities, developing best practices, and promoting integrations and solutions around Apollo products.
- Identify use cases and opportunities for business value, helping customers and Apollo grow together.
- Create technical communications such as blog posts, documentation, reference architectures, and code samples; contribute feedback to OSS and Apollo products.
- Lead enablement via presentations, workshops, and mentoring, advancing best practices for adoption.
- Monitor and help scale production GraphQL workloads, collaborating with teams to ensure robust, observable, and resilient architectures.
Who you are
- 5+ years of experience in engineering, architecture, or technical consulting roles—including customer-facing or internal team leadership experience.
- Demonstrated experience designing and building production solutions with GraphQL for internal teams or external customers.
- Proficient in production-level GraphQL, with languages like Java, and JavaScript; exposure to Apollo GraphQL and federated architecture is a strong plus.
- Familiar with APIs, distributed systems, and the GraphQL ecosystem, including subgraph/client-side development, cloud infrastructure, monitoring, observability, and application performance monitoring (APM) tools.
- Experience monitoring and scaling production workloads in a real-world environment.
- Able to think critically about how solutions will perform and integrate in different environments and for various customer needs.
- Strong presentation, communication, and time management skills.
- Creative problem-solver with strong logic and reasoning abilities.
- Passionate about mentoring, collaboration, and enabling teams to do more than they thought possible.
- Willing and able to travel to company and customer events as required.
Nice to have
- Prior experience with Apollo GraphOS and/or Apollo Federation.
- Experience developing integrations or tooling in the GraphQL ecosystem.

The above salary range includes base salary + variable compensation. Apollo also offers equity, and benefits. Dental and Vision benefits are provided by Sun Life Financial.
Location: This is a remote position that can be done from anywhere in the US or Canada, working PST or CST hours.
