This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building a sustainable infrastructure to transport crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As the Transporter Vehicle Requirements and Verification Lead you will be responsible for the vehicle level requirements and verifications as well as supporting/approving subsystem decomposition of the vehicle level. You will work directly with Blue Origin Lunar Permanence elements, our National Team Partners, and NASA. You will play a key role in developing the lunar vehicle system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth. 

You will guide a team of engineers to write and manage the vehicle functional and performance requirements and plan the verification campaign.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Requirements management at system level and system of systems level, including working with NASA and our team on any new or modified requirements.
  • Lead system and lower-level requirements management including change control, impact assessments, audits, and coordination with other teams.
  • Work with multiple partners to define system-level interfaces and dependencies that cross element boundaries.
  • Manage the definition of interface requirements between systems (external to the vehicle).
  • Develop system (vehicle) -level verification plan, including verification event definitions and integration of subsystem-level events.
  • Develop system-level verification closure products including preparation of Validation Closure Notices for Blue Origin and NASA purposes.
  • Track metrics against plans to develop and closeout requirements and verification products.
  • Perform technical work and provide technical leadership of the highest caliber
  • Utilize good engineering and business judgement to ensure the most efficient and effective product is designed, manufactured, procured, tested, qualified, and delivered.
  • Work independently toward long-range objectives without appreciable direction and determine the technical objectives of assignments to develop approaches to solutions.
  • Embody, promote, and coach the Blue Origin leadership principles.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the element teams.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Expertise in the use of requirements and functional analysis to specify and verify complex systems.
  • Experience with defining and managing interfaces, interface requirements, and interface agreements.
  • Detailed knowledge of overall systems engineering process and technical budgets
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering or another technical field.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful candidates typically have 8-12 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with full spacecraft design life cycle
  • Experience working on a verification program for a complex spaceflight or aviation system.
  • Experience with requirements and V&V tracking tools, preferably using JAMA.
  • Experience operating on an Agile team.
  • Experience with NASA development program(s).
  • Experience with NASA design and certifications standards for human spaceflight.
  • Experience with NASA certification of flight readiness process for a new system.
  • Experience with NASA lunar, deep space, or planetary missions.
  • Experience working on large complex programs with multiple partners.


 

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $140,959.00-$197,342.25

  • Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification, Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing (CDL drivers only), vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.
