Design, build, and operate large-scale distributed production systems focused on latency, reliability, and correctness. Own systems end-to-end, reason about architecture and failure modes, optimize performance vs. correctness, and ship production-quality infrastructure rapidly in an early-stage startup environment.

About CaseGuild

CaseGuild builds the industry’s most advanced evidence reasoning platform for complex litigation, helping legal teams investigate massive document sets and surface critical facts with speed and precision.

We’re a fast-growing, early-stage Seattle startup building deeply technical systems at the intersection of distributed systems, data infrastructure, and AI platforms. We operate at billions of tokens, where latency, reliability, and correctness matter. You’ll join a small, senior team that ships production systems daily, measures everything, and iterates based on real-world performance.

The Role

This role is for a systems-focused startup engineer who thinks from first principles and has built and operated large-scale production systems.

You’ve spent years designing, building, and running systems where failure modes, tail latency, throughput, and operational simplicity mattered. You enjoy reasoning about tradeoffs, performance vs. correctness, abstraction vs. control, and owning systems end-to-end while shipping at startup pace.

You Might Thrive in This Role If You:

  • Have 5–7+ years building and operating production systems at scale
  • Have designed distributed systems where latency, reliability, and correctness mattered
  • Think clearly about architecture, tradeoffs, and failure modes
  • Are comfortable working close to the metal when needed, and abstracting when it helps
  • Enjoy end-to-end ownership and pragmatic tradeoffs in a startup environment
  • Operate with high agency, a bias toward getting 1% better every day, and strong ownership
  • Care deeply about correctness, rigor, and repeatability

Compensation
The base pay range for this role is $80,000 – $140,000 per year.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
